For those who have seen Bollywood movies before, might find this movie totally different from it. I have plenty of thoughts yet I’ll hold it till the comment session, if you wish to talk about it, that is. ^^ In the mean time, enjoy the show!

Synopsis (Spoilers below!)

The show started off with an 18 year old boy by the name of Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), who was tortured and interrogated by the policemen about his shocking ability of reaching the stage which he was only ONE question away to win 20 million rupees on India’s ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’. But, why would they even be suspicious in the first place?? Simply, because he grew up in the slum. No way he could be any smarter, nor educated enough to even get past 1st question! So, he must be cheating!!

No, he did not. As the recording of the Millionaire show was playing, Jamal explained to the inspector, one question to the next, just how they were coincidently interrelated to his life story, the tragic, the misfortunes and how he was desperate to be on the show, just to find the love of his life – Latika.

The story brought us back to about 10 years ago, Jamal and his brother Salim were living in the slum with their mother. Salim was a slick kid, constantly working his ways through the slum by selling, and making deals with whatever merchandise he could get his hands on. In the other hand, Jamal was just being the kid of his age, happy & innocently cheerful. One drastic tragedy took their mother’s life away. Homeless and helpless, the 2 brothers wandered around places, later joined by a little girl, Latika who Jamal invited into the little shelter of theirs on a stormy night.

So the 3 musketeers, together, making their ways through the rubbish dumps, until a local gang brought them to a decent shelter, with the rest of the orphans. They were given good food and asked to sing… unknowingly the gang was on a plot to use them as children beggars. Some were paralyzed and been hurt to gain pity from the public. Salim fought back when the gang leader was about to hurt Jamal, and they escaped by jumping onto a train. Salim abandoned Latika and she ended up recaptured.

The boys came to a new place, where they saw the most enormous building of all – The Taj Mahal. They stayed around that area for quite sometimes with Jamal earned a living by being a tour guide; while his brother, Salim, a gangster. One day, both Jamal and Salim reunited with Latika unexpectedly. The boys decided to save her from the misery before the gang would sell her as a virgin. Salim killed the gang leader and they ran away. Afterwards, Salim joined another gang, and this time he took Latika away himself, leaving the poor Jamal behind.

A few years later, Jamal was working as an office-boy in a phone service company. One day, out of coincidence, he found Salim (Madhur Mittal) while covering a temporary shift for an operator. He punched Salim in the face upon meeting him, angry for his abandonment; while anticipated to see Latika once more. Sadly, Latika (Freida Pinto) was now the mistress of another gang leader, who was treating her like dirt. Jamal determined to run away with Latika and leave this place for good. Everyday, Jamal would wait for Latika as promised at the railway station, until the day she finally came! Their happiness did not last long, as Salim got in their ways and took Latika back to the leader. Again, Jamal was left behind, and Latika was no where to be found.

Jamal was desperate, until he came to his senses that the only way for Latika to find him was through the famous Millionaire T.V. Show. His job at the phone service company earned him a golden opportunity to get on the show. Even the host (Anil Kapoor) underestimated his chance of winning. As the game progressed, out of jealousy, the host even provided him a false answer while in the washroom. Jamal did not buy it which got him to the final question. As the show was over-timed, Jamal could only continue his challenge the next day. The gameshow host called the policemen and reported him cheating on the show, which brought us back to how the story started.

The inspector let Jamal go after confirming he wasn’t lying at all. Jamal went back to the show in time for his final question. As for Latika, she saw Jamal on T.V., so did Salim. This time, Salim finally decided to help Latika escape by giving her the car key and his cellphone. Latika ran far away from the bad guys and safe enough to watch Jamal on the show.

Now the whole nation was grasping and holding their breath, hoping the boy from the slum could win the 20million rupees. The last question, Jamal used the final lifeline, to phone a friend, and he chose to call Salim. Latika picked up in time, and Jamal was relieved to know she was safe, and that was all he needed to hear. What about the final answer? Out of his own instinct, he won the game!!

Jamal and Latika reunited at the railway station, where they supposed to meet. As for Salim, he fought his last battle with the gang and died in the bathtub full of money bills.

There goes the happy ending with the 2 lovers together at last, and danced the night away.

If you’ve watched it, what’s your thought of the show?

How To Deal With Slow Bandwidth??

deal with slow bandwidth

What you shall do if you’re experiencing slow-bandwidth? Here are some solutions you might like to try out:

1) Open as few webpages as possible, preferably 1 .
– multitask?? no, don’t even think about it.

2) Carry out your online chores/surfing during odd hours, say the wee hours, and in the morning when most people are at work / school.
– I do, and most people too, have a job. Shall we stay up from 1am – 5am and sleep during daytime? Try to live the life as a vampire, only you’re a ‘Net’pire instead.

3) Subscribe to another bandwidth service, say 3G? Wimax?
– 3G, tried. Unstable & costly. Wimax? For my area, not until 2010. So..move along..

4) How about Dial-up service?
– ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

5) Compain! Complain! Dial 100 and complain!
– Although mostly you’re going to hear “the indication shows that the line is perfectly normal, most probably is due to your hardware problem..” or “No, here it’s just fine” as long as the DSL light is stable, no, it’s not their problem.

6) Offline. Forget it.
Best solution. Just wait till the line gets better by itself, and only GOD knows when.

How we able to cope with the IT age if we’re not getting a good bandwidth service?? Let’s not forget, we are paying for the service.

A Nobleprice is on the waiting list for the one who could solve this problem. The whole nation will nominate him/her, you can count on that!

The One Thing That You Don't Want To Miss!

Let’s forget about the hassle in life for a sec, give a little passage for the post below. Especially on a calm, and easy Friday night…

“He never thought he cared so much about the minute hand, until he started praying for a second chance. If he could only do it all again and trade the long nights that he spent behind his desk, for all he missed. He tells his wife,

“I wish that this moment in this room, was not me dying but just spending a little time with you…”

***************************************
She never thought she cared so much about those little hands, that held on tight the day she left till she was scared to death. Sitting all alone on a hotel bed, the end of the road. The sun has set on her big plans to feel young again. She picks up the phone, dials a number, hears that little voice. That’s haunted every single mile since she made that choice…

You only get just one time around, you only get one shot at this. One chance to find out the one thing that you don’t wanna miss. One day when it’s all said and done, I hope you see that it was enough. This one ride, one try, one life to love… ”

What’s going through your mind right now? Have you ever thought of what matters the most in your life when things are all said and done?

These stories are familiar ones, it could be me or you. Why not just relax your mind, bear with me for another 4 minutes by taking a glimpse of the clip below. Try to put on your headset/earphone when you do. I fall in love with this song the first time I heard it on finetune, take a listen, and maybe have some thoughts about it all…

And yes, the stories above, were the lyrics.

One Life To Live, To Try, and To Love.

How To Create Favicon For Your Blog?

An enlarged-version

By now you should be able to see a tiny favicon I created for my blog. In case you’re wondering, it has been living there at the ‘URL/Address Box’ for almost a month now.

Nothing fancy, just a combination of 2 initials that have being living with me for as long as I can remember.

Want to know how I fix that?
1. Firstly, you need to create your favicon using a graphic-editting software such as Photoshop (Or any type that allows you to draw/edit your image). Don’t go over the top with it, as the standard size for favicon is only 16×16 px. Save your file as .jpg or .png file.

2. Next, you need to convert your image file to .ico, and generate the HTML codes to be embeded within your blog layout theme. Go to this site and get everthing ready. (No registration/membership required)
iconj

3. Copy and paste the code (circled in red) to your blogger template:

(For self-hosting site: you could use the code at no.2 at ‘Direct Download’ session)

How?
- Go to Layout> Edit HTML. Find the location for the below coding first:

a) press Ctrl+F on your keyboard,

b) paste the codes below in your search box,
<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
(upon locating it, paste the HTML code of your favicon right after it)

4. Save the template.
After refreshing your site, you should be able to see your new creation replacing the blogger favicon!

Having difficulties to create one? I’m more than happy to help out. You know where to find me.

**the live performance clip was deleted by its user, so I replaced it with the Audio file instead**

Danny Gokey blew me away with ‘I Hope You Dance’ (originally by Lee Ann Womack)! Although heard it a thousands of times but just like how David Cook did with Always Be My Babe, I actually like Danny‘s version better (no offense to Ronan Keating though). I hope there’s a complete version of this song, don’t you?

Still a little early for prediction, but we’ll see how far he’ll go (pretty far, if he doesn’t mess up). I’m surprised to find so many favourites at such early stage. A little upset to see some were eliminated, sigh.. but there can only be 1 winner right? So many talents, bound to be a great competition ahead. It’s gonna be another 6 months of musical nights and I’m up for it. Want to know the rest of the Top 36?

I think I’m gonna go play some.. who got the chords? ^^

How To Deal With Content Theft!

Why I Hate Scrappers???
Imagine this, you’re busting your butt to work on something, not necessarily grand or incredible, but you’ve poured out your time and effort to do research, and make sure it’s detailed, for the sake of providing good information or knowledge to others. Finally, it’s done, you read it, satisfied, and hit ‘Published’! Days later, you learnt from somebody,

‘Hey! I’ve seen this post somewhere.. but not written by you. I’m not kidding, the content is EXACTLY the same as yours!!’

How would you react about it?
*&%^$#@^% Pardon my French, but, it’s pretty damn terrible, isn’t it?

Don’t You Know that is STEALING??
Copying somebody’s work, no matter articles or designs from scratch all the way till the end, without asking permission from the author, even named it as your own work? That’s stealing! So what if you changed 1 or 2 words in between? How about the same typo or grammar mistakes that go along with the original? No where to hide now, isn’t it? Putting off with the lame excuses, You know what’s the worst part? The scraper who is making money from all your hard work and takes all the credit for it. Selfish and irresponsible!

That happens. When a blogger friend of mine told me about her experience with content theft, I was so mad on her behalf. She wrote a perfect, informative article, obviously spent quite some times for research and writing, ended up in another weird-looking site. The most annoying thing is the person who did it, put a deaf ear to her plead of taking down her article! What a nuisance, but what to do next??

How You Should Deal With Scrappers?
So when the other day I was browsing through the forum, and I came across a thread regarding this matter, I just can’t hold it anymore. Thanks to
Authority blogger forum and some of the experts who shared their ideas and info, I’ve decided to list few of their useful solutions regarding content theft. Perhaps if you have similar experiences in future, do something about it.

1. Email the person and ask him/her to bring down the article immediately before more serious measures would be taken.

2. IF step 1 failed, try to find out his service providers, contact them and ask for their assistance in this matter. (Including hosting provider & advertising partners, such as Google Adsense, Bidvertiser etc.)

**Thanks to tallen42, he provided a link to a list of DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) contacts for hosts.

**Also, if you need further updates about content theft or any related matters, kindly visit Plagiarismtoday which was suggested by Sue C.

3. Now the victims could file a notice of infringement with Google using an online form. By doing so, hoping Google could take quick measures into handling & processing your requests. –UPDATED on 15/04/09

**Thanks to Sue C (the PI that we addressed as ‘Scoop Sue’ from now on) for providing this valuable info

Ways To Detect Scrappers??
**Another great tip, if you wish to find out irresponsible scrapers who steal your contents, Jen suggested:

- Check the ‘Uncommon Uses’ under your Feedburner account to find out sites that are showing your feeds.

- Using
Copyscape to find duplicates.

- Using Google Blog search to find scraped contents. (Suggested by Rose DesRochers from BloggerTalk)

- Using Google Alert as email updates about the latest, relevant Google results depending on your topic/keyword choice. Configure according to your preference. (Suggested by Kathie M. Thomas) –UPDATED on 15/04/09

Also, thanks to mintblogger who brought up this matter in the forum, and gave us a clear scenario that led to all of the useful ideas above. Congrats to him, as in the end, after all the efforts, he managed to solve this problem with the scraper.

KOREA TOUR (3): Island, Palace & FIFA!

Posted by Ching Ya | Posted in Personal | Posted on 07-02-2009

Venue:
Wolmido (Wolmi Island),

Cheongwadae & Monument,
Gyeongbokgung Palace,
2002 FIFA World Cup Museum

It was cold, around 6a.m., we put on our winter clothings and gloves, headed straight for Wolmido.

Wolmido (Wolmi Island)

Hopped on the ferry, as you can see it was still quite dark around. By the time we reached the dock, everyone was excited to check out this beautiful island. Long ago, Wolmido was just only a small island, separeted from the land ‘Icheon’ (??), but as the road-constructions continued, the two places connected, which makes Wolmido another dwelling place for Koreans. We were told Wolmido is famous for its beautiful seaview. We enjoyed the seabreeze while strolling along the pathway. We enjoyed the tranquility, watching the boats/ferry sailing afar. The street looked vacant in the pic, since it was only around 7a.m. then, which is why no pirate ship for us too.

Cheongwadae & Monument

The office of the President (the Republic of South Korea). If you translate the meaning literally from its Korean name ~ ‘The House of the blue roof tiles’. We were only able to admire it from afar, while taking pictures with the monuments laid in front of it. Lots of guards/police were there monitoring the traffic while make sure the visitors were in a safe distance from the palace. See the mountain behind us? It’s situated on the north side of Seoul. The tour guide told us that’s the Feng-Shui mountain, which is why the President residence is just around the area.

Gyeongbokgung Palace

What fascinates me was the modern side of Seoul at one side; while the traditional palace at another – the beauty of contrast! I had alot of fun visiting this magnificent palace, the structures reminded me alot of the Forbidden City in China. The palace is like a maze, with quarters looked very similar to one another. Each building structure and position are well planned, and has its very own special meaning. It was fascinating to learn the How’s and Why’s, while imagining the history in our heads. Since most parts of the palace were torn down during Japanese invasions, thus the effort of restoration had been ongoing since 1990 until today.

2002 FIFA World Cup Museum
The biggest achievement for the Korean soccer team, when they made it to the semi-finals in 2002 World Cup (hosted by Korea). Oh, I remembered that clearly, as I was on a date that exact afternoon, when the TV at the restaurant where we dined announcing the great news. Now as I made my way through the World Cup Museum, I can’t believe it had been 6 years now! Feels like it was yesterday when all that happenened. So, can anybody tell me the names of these Mascots??

… by Sadie’s Skinny, who owns a Personal Weight Loss Blog. While I was there I had a fun time reading some of the jokes she shared, go right over to claim your laughs. So now my task is to share 7 random / weird things about me, later tag 7 people the next while linking to their blogs. So you think you know somebody huh?

1. I never been to kindergarten, which is why I freaked out during my first day at school (1st Grade) Big Time!! One of the most ‘popular’ kids in my class that day (not in an honorable way). Later that year, I came 1st in the story-telling competition that cleared my name.

2. Almost 80% of my immediate family members play basketball. We’ve been into tournaments, and my dad used to be a basketball coach, but not on my team.

3. I’m quite a sensitive person.

4. 80′s pop songs = my kid’s songs; and I watched Army Of Darkness when I was 3-4, ended up hiding behind the family couch.

5. I’ve been on a netcage in the middle of the sea; handling more than 30 Tiger Groupers (ranging from 3-5kg) with my bare hands (with help, of course) in a project. Wait, I think I still have their sci name in my head~ Epinephelus fuscoguttatus… GOSH!! Did I spell that right??

6. I love playing guitar. Hoping to learn piano or drums someday too. My dream is to be in a band.

7. I used to beat most of the people in a Typing version of House Of The Dead (PC game) – Speed.

So that’s just about it. If you’re interested to join in the tag, why not? =) Let your readers know more about you. Enjoy!

Jumbled Movie Spree ~ Not For The Fainthearted!

Posted by Ching Ya | Posted in Movie Spree | Posted on 03-02-2009

8

It has been awhile since I last blogged about Movies. Thanks to Crystal, whom I visited earlier and gave me a long movie checklist to scroll over, I actually missed blogging about it. Let’s get that old feeling back by starting with these 2, ready for some adrenaline-pumping ride?

1. Boogeyman 3
(Imdb rate: 4.9/10 out of 574 votes)

Of course I got through B1, B2, before B3. I was, and still am, never too crazy about sequels. B3 is more likely a teen-horror flick with massive CGIs, and reminds me a lot of Grudge or the plastic masks of Monster Slayer. So the legend continues. Still having second thoughts about whether or not to open that closet door?

Just so you know, the B3 trailer is only starting after 0.43sec. Yes, it’s too short, but that’s all you need to know – as little as possible.

Summary (may contain spoilers):

Sarah was a psychology student who hosted a late night radio show with her lecturer. Her life undergone a drastic change after she witnessed a horrific sight of her best friend been strangled to death by a monster a.k.a The Boogeyman.

No one claimed to believe the myth, of course, until those with suspicious minds of the possible existence of Boogeyman went missing from their dorms! Only Sarah knew what happened to them – in her vivid nightmares, they were murdered in the most horrific ways possible, but their bodies were never been found. Everyone thought Sarah was paranoid, neither her best friends nor boyfriend buy her ‘Boogeyman Killed Them All!’ remarks.

The story progressed until everyone in the dorm started talking about it. Only when Sarah’s lecturer & David, her boyfriend, ended up been murdered after believing her stories, she began to realize the evil plan that Boogeyman had for her: she was used as a vessel to spread the legend as widely as possible! The more people fearing about the legend, the more stronger and powerful Boogeyman over its victims (hmm..Nightmares on Elm Street?). Feeling guilty while trying to stop the massacre from happening, Sarah knew she had to make a choice…
(the ending is published here, if you wish to know !)

What I Think?
I didn’t give out the ending, as I’m sure you know how it ended anyway. Just think about the ending of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer 2’. There’s bound to be a B4. Isn’t it clear enough? No particular thoughts about it, really. It’s just another horror movie, with the familiar storylines. Personally, only a 5/10. Why not 4 or less? ‘Cause the effects are still pretty gruesome.

2. Amusement
(Imdb rating: 5.6/10 out of 783 votes)

I guess the fact that me having lower expectations for Amusement had it turned out to be one heck of a surprising ride! At least it took me off guard at some point of the show. Again, no rationality needed, forget about all the How’s/Why On Earth’s, just enjoy the show!

But I’d suggest you to skip the trailer and dive into the film straight! You’ll find it more intriguing then.

Summary (spoilers ahead!.. again):

Should I give out the entire summary or maybe just a bit? The twists & turns are what made it interesting. Alright, keeping it as simple as I could. (Don’t say I didn’t warn you about the spoilers)

Shelby, Tabitha & Lisa were childhood friends. After grown up, they lost contact with each other. Shelby was on a road trip with his boyfriend, until she saw a girl in the truck whom she believed needed help. But ended up been captured by a psychopath.

Tabitha went to visit/babysit her younger cousins at her aunt’s. It was a big house with only 3 of them spending the night. Tabitha found her room to be the spookiest, with a lot of dolls/dummies, and a huge, ugly clown sitting on the rocking chair.

At night, she got a knock at the door. Unable to identify the guy’s face in the dark, she sent him off after telling him the babysitter he was looking for had left long ago. Tabitha went back upstairs, tugged the boys in and ready for bed herself. Later that night, Tabitha received a phone call that sent a shiver down her spines…

Lisa was having a girls’ night out with her housemate at the night club. Later when her housemate met a guy and thought of going out on a date with him, Lisa approved and hung out with her boyfriend instead. She got home, hoping to see her housemate back from the date but she wasn’t there.

On the next day, there was still no sign of Lisa’s roomate. Lisa began to worry, so she asked her boyfriend, Dan, to check out the abandoned mansion which was now a place for the homeless people, to see if her housemate was there with her date, who claimed to be staying there. Dan went in, but never got out. Lisa could not wait much longer and sneaked in, later only hoped she didn’t…

So, 3 girls ended up got caught by their childhood friend, a boy who was having serious psychology problem and spooked them out with his project back in the old days. He searched for revenge as they made fun of him before and now wanted them, especially Tabitha, to approve of his ‘amusing’ tricks. Upon staring at the horrific sight of her childhood best friends been tied up and tortured, she begged for their lives been spared. Failed to do so, suddenly the psycho turned around surprised, when Tabitha started to burst into laughter…

What I Think?
As the story is trying to jumble up a lot of horror features in it, you can see lots of shadows from films such as Roadtrip, Scream, The Strang
er, Dead Silence etc. And the multiple personalities from the bad guy that pulled everything off, although a little far-fetched, but it kinda worked in a thrilling way.

The tricks are the same, but the way how the story was told is briliant (only if you watched as many lousy horror movies lately like me, you’ll appreciate Amusement better). Despite the story being a little disturbing, I still give it credit for a breakthrough. The clown won the title for the scariest part of the film. This flick got my vote for suspense and some surprises along the way, so personally, 6.5/10.

How To Move from FeedBurner To Google Account

Posted by Ching Ya | Posted in Blogger Tips, Feedburner, How To | Posted on 01-02-2009

6

So, we are told, all FeedBurner users are required to move to their Google account! It’s a MUST instead of a choice, as it is mentioned in the FAQs that all transfers should be done by 28th Feb 2009, or else you may having problem:
- accessing to your account, or
- your feed address will have a ’404 Not Found’ response etc.

We wouldn’t want that, would we? It’s better do it now then regret later. I had mine transferred 3 days ago, hassle free.

Here’s how:

1. While logging in your feedburner account, you’ll have a reminder that highlighted in yellow: “Hey!We are moving FeedBurner to Google…. ” click Move your account now. You’ll be directed to below page:

It’s preferrably to use your Google Adsense account as Google FeedBurner will allow Adsense in your future Feed; you may need to configure it under ‘Monetize‘ after re-login with your new Google FeedBurner account.

2. After making your pick, sign in with your preferred Google Account (which will be your Google FeedBurner account as well).

3. After confirming the details, start moving your feeds by ‘Move Feeds’.

4. The moving is in progress…

5. Until you see this page appeared! Mine was less than 2 minutes. Later you will receive an email notifying about the transfer.

Since it is written, you may encounter some surprising drop on the feed count or stats, don’t panic, as it’s part of the process. It’ll take 1 week or so to get back on track. Good Luck!
