1. Boogeyman 3
(Imdb rate: 4.9/10 out of 574 votes)
Of course I got through B1, B2, before B3. I was, and still am, never too crazy about sequels. B3 is more likely a teen-horror flick with massive CGIs, and reminds me a lot of Grudge or the plastic masks of Monster Slayer. So the legend continues. Still having second thoughts about whether or not to open that closet door?
Just so you know, the B3 trailer is only starting after 0.43sec. Yes, it’s too short, but that’s all you need to know – as little as possible.
Summary (may contain spoilers):
Sarah was a psychology student who hosted a late night radio show with her lecturer. Her life undergone a drastic change after she witnessed a horrific sight of her best friend been strangled to death by a monster a.k.a The Boogeyman.
No one claimed to believe the myth, of course, until those with suspicious minds of the possible existence of Boogeyman went missing from their dorms! Only Sarah knew what happened to them – in her vivid nightmares, they were murdered in the most horrific ways possible, but their bodies were never been found. Everyone thought Sarah was paranoid, neither her best friends nor boyfriend buy her ‘Boogeyman Killed Them All!’ remarks.
The story progressed until everyone in the dorm started talking about it. Only when Sarah’s lecturer & David, her boyfriend, ended up been murdered after believing her stories, she began to realize the evil plan that Boogeyman had for her: she was used as a vessel to spread the legend as widely as possible! The more people fearing about the legend, the more stronger and powerful Boogeyman over its victims (hmm..Nightmares on Elm Street?). Feeling guilty while trying to stop the massacre from happening, Sarah knew she had to make a choice…
(the ending is published here, if you wish to know !)
What I Think?
I didn’t give out the ending, as I’m sure you know how it ended anyway. Just think about the ending of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer 2’. There’s bound to be a B4. Isn’t it clear enough? No particular thoughts about it, really. It’s just another horror movie, with the familiar storylines. Personally, only a 5/10. Why not 4 or less? ‘Cause the effects are still pretty gruesome.
2. Amusement
(Imdb rating: 5.6/10 out of 783 votes)
I guess the fact that me having lower expectations for Amusement had it turned out to be one heck of a surprising ride! At least it took me off guard at some point of the show. Again, no rationality needed, forget about all the How’s/Why On Earth’s, just enjoy the show!
But I’d suggest you to skip the trailer and dive into the film straight! You’ll find it more intriguing then.
Summary (spoilers ahead!.. again):
Should I give out the entire summary or maybe just a bit? The twists & turns are what made it interesting. Alright, keeping it as simple as I could. (Don’t say I didn’t warn you about the spoilers)
Shelby, Tabitha & Lisa were childhood friends. After grown up, they lost contact with each other. Shelby was on a road trip with his boyfriend, until she saw a girl in the truck whom she believed needed help. But ended up been captured by a psychopath.
Tabitha went to visit/babysit her younger cousins at her aunt’s. It was a big house with only 3 of them spending the night. Tabitha found her room to be the spookiest, with a lot of dolls/dummies, and a huge, ugly clown sitting on the rocking chair.
At night, she got a knock at the door. Unable to identify the guy’s face in the dark, she sent him off after telling him the babysitter he was looking for had left long ago. Tabitha went back upstairs, tugged the boys in and ready for bed herself. Later that night, Tabitha received a phone call that sent a shiver down her spines…
Lisa was having a girls’ night out with her housemate at the night club. Later when her housemate met a guy and thought of going out on a date with him, Lisa approved and hung out with her boyfriend instead. She got home, hoping to see her housemate back from the date but she wasn’t there.
On the next day, there was still no sign of Lisa’s roomate. Lisa began to worry, so she asked her boyfriend, Dan, to check out the abandoned mansion which was now a place for the homeless people, to see if her housemate was there with her date, who claimed to be staying there. Dan went in, but never got out. Lisa could not wait much longer and sneaked in, later only hoped she didn’t…
So, 3 girls ended up got caught by their childhood friend, a boy who was having serious psychology problem and spooked them out with his project back in the old days. He searched for revenge as they made fun of him before and now wanted them, especially Tabitha, to approve of his ‘amusing’ tricks. Upon staring at the horrific sight of her childhood best friends been tied up and tortured, she begged for their lives been spared. Failed to do so, suddenly the psycho turned around surprised, when Tabitha started to burst into laughter…
What I Think?
As the story is trying to jumble up a lot of horror features in it, you can see lots of shadows from films such as Roadtrip, Scream, The Strang
er, Dead Silence etc. And the multiple personalities from the bad guy that pulled everything off, although a little far-fetched, but it kinda worked in a thrilling way.
The tricks are the same, but the way how the story was told is briliant (only if you watched as many lousy horror movies lately like me, you’ll appreciate Amusement better). Despite the story being a little disturbing, I still give it credit for a breakthrough. The clown won the title for the scariest part of the film. This flick got my vote for suspense and some surprises along the way, so personally, 6.5/10.

Ha.. that shall be fun! Thanks for the tagging. Time for self-evaluation! hia hia hia…
I’ve always been very bad at actually rating films, I suppose I don’t really analyse them at all.
The thing about most horror movies is that it’s not the story that scares you, and there are only a few storylines you can do with a horror movie anyway.
After looking at that I’ll stay away from boogieman 3 but if I see amusement around I’ll pick it up
Hi Nathan. Yeah, I guess you're right. We shouldn't expect much 'storyline' from any horror movies actually, since it's just trying to serve its purpose by being scary. However, don't we miss the time when we jump out of our seats & desperate to know what would happen next? Those were the days.
Smart choice, between the 2, I would do the exact same thing.
