Request: “Hope you can write about FB applications to promote blog in future ! Thanks !”
Do you own a Facebook and a blog? If so, think you’re going to enjoy this week’s discussion. Thanks to S.Pradeep Kumar for bringing up the question during his visit at 16 Social Bookmarking Plugins to Promote Your Post. I’ve started a little journey digging through Facebook in past weeks, hoping to find some relevant ideas on how to promote your blog using Facebook applications. Before we’re getting into any of those, make sure you fill up as much information on your Facebook Profile as possible — digital name card for first timers:
13 Facebook Applications To Promote Your Blog
There are ways to frequent your blog’s visibility within Facebook network. Do bear in mind you don’t have to use ALL of them or keep your Wall busy with all the blog updates – especially if you are a productive daily-blog-poster. It may get a little annoyed and your friends may secretly switch off your news feed reminder so be smart on picking the ones that suit your network.
Basic Features:
1. Links & Updates

- Share your blog / post link with your friends to have them feedback or comment on it. Or easier, announce an update to have them all aware of the blog launch. Just a snap!
2. Notes

- Copy and paste your individual blog articles or import the entire blog feed into Notes so your friends can read them, either through link sharing or by tagging them. They can spread the notes on your behalf or comment on it as well. The notes can be viewed in Full or Compact (shown in pic) mode.
Blog/Posts Exposures via Additional Applications:
- Facebook Fan Pages can be a good idea for blog promoting when:
a. You plan to keep your personal Facebook account separated from your blogging community.
b. You can have discussion board, customized applications while sending email updates to ALL fans, as I like to call them supporters instead.
I have just setup my blog’s Facebook Page. Hope to see you guys there!

.
- The most-used application to promote your blog on Facebook with the ability to network with other blogs easily through ‘follow’ option. Followers can post comment, rate the blog and enjoy meeting other followers. Not to mention it equips the ability to autopost from multiple blogs to your Facebook Page too! I had my Social @ Blogging Tracker all fixed up in NetworkedBlogs. It’ll be a privilege to see you there!
You can have your networked blogs visible at the sidebar, underneath your Facebook Profile or on your Facebook Pages. Displaying yours and other blogs you’ve joined or liked, served as an active blogroll apart from blog promotion.
5. Social RSS
- Provide RSS feed subscription for your blog through Facebook. Make your Social RSS visible by setting it appeared as box tab or at the sidebar. Tag the RSS with a familiar name like ‘blog’ so others will notice. Configure and fill up the required fields before activate it. The feeds will update automatically in accordance to your latest post.
6. Simplaris Blogcast -[26/03/12/] no longer available
- Display your latest or chosen posts with or without graphic on your Facebook Profile (box tab or sidebar) or on Facebook Page. Normally latest posts will be displayed on your Facebook Wall as well if you preset it. Visibility is what Simplaris Blogcast do best, however the updating is quite slow sometimes and require manually setup (free version).
Indirect Methods:
7. Blog -[26/03/12/] no longer available
- How about a little indirect method to promote your main site via ‘Blog’ on Facebook? This application allows you to blog directly on Facebook – by unmark the ‘private’ option you can make the post public in ‘Explore’ section to whoever is using the application. Extra audiences, why not? An idea I picked up from those who are using Tumblr and Posterous to promote their main blog.
8. Blog Box -[26/03/12/] no longer available

- The efficiency of writing a post on Blog Box (similar to no.7: Blog) or import from your existing blog. If for the latter, it will update every 6 hours checking for new post on your main site. Unless you prefer to spend some dime on Pro version that may save time on the updating, for me that’s unnecessary. Blog Box is said to be visible outside Facebook too, so people can add your blog to Google Reader freely.
9. Blog It -[26/03/12/] no longer available

- Ability to inter-posting between your social media sites and Facebook. Choices ranging from microblogging to various types of blogging platforms. I’m more into using it for microblogging instead of blog posts but that’s just the matter of preferences. Some similarities shown as Mirror Blog application.
10. Tumblelog -[26/03/12/] no longer available
- The ability to display content from your Tumblr blog on your Facebook profile. If you own a Tumblr blog this application is worth a shot.
Extra Facebook Features:
- Create a group that you’re passionate about and have like-minded people to join in. Have on-going and active discussions, connect with members often. You may even find some new members interested in your writings too.
12. Facebook Ads
- If you’re willing to pay for publicity, another idea is via Facebook Ads. You can create a campaign to drive in traffic to your website or your well-known Facebook Page and more. The idea of reaching out to targeted readers varied by age, location, interests is what Facebook Ads do best.
13. Social Media Integration
- Ever since Facebook has decided to open up and willing to integrate with other social media and microblogging sites, sharing a blog post or promotion has never been easier. Through a well-written post you can gain massive exposure on Facebook when blog readers submit your post to: Digg, Stumbleupon, Delicious, Twitter and have it shown on their Facebook Wall ! As you’ve noticed I’ve tried a few on my Facebook, along with LinkedIn account info and Twitter updates:
a. Social Twitter -[26/03/12/] no longer available
b. LinkedIn
Now It’s Your Turn…
If you have any experience gaining popularity to your blog using Facebook applications, feel free to share in the comment section. If it’s relevant I’ll be including it in the post and credit you a mention.
If you like this post, kindly share it with your networks:

I have used facebook pages for my blog and i have liked the response form readers. It is the best way to connect, better than groups.
NetworkedBlogs blogs makes ot easier to post your latest posts to your facebook page.
Gautam,
You have an impressive Facebook page. I just joined as a member. ^^ Your achievement really prompts me to speed up my facebook page release. Do you have any advise on when’s the right time to release? or the earlier the better?
Great post as always – I think many bloggers will find it useful.

Maris,
Oh I sure hope so. ^^ I know it’s far from perfect so I do hope more experts can jump in and give more insightful ideas on how to use Facebook properly. Apart from networking alone, maybe there’s some hidden treasures within?
Do you own a facebook account? If yes hope to see you there.
I have personally never been a member of Facebook simply because everyone else is. A bit immature, I know.
But do you feel it is a good idea to spread your links to Facebook? Personally I always try to separate work (blogging) and friends. I guess it could depend on what reasons you use Facebook for, but most of my friends only use it to see what their friends are doing.
.-= Stefan´s last blog ..Get People to Work For Free =-.
Stefan,
I know, I had the same feeling about Twitter before I joined. It’s like ‘So what?’ type of feeling.. ha.. that’s normal.
That’s true, which is why I don’t recommend using all the applications above but choosing what’s right in accordance to the purpose of your facebook. For mine, the main priority is to connect with blogger friends. Although I think one or two blog-related link sharing will be fine, not overdoing it.
Sometimes I wonder shall I post a blog-discussion within? That’s the time when I thought of using Facebook Page instead which sounds more appropriate.
Wow ! Great applications Ching Ya !
And I glad to see, that I use almost every applications mentioned here ! Hurray !

S.Pradeep,
Thank you so much! I think you’ve initiated a good request that makes me think about optimizing Facebook fully. I really enjoying trying out the apps, a good lesson. ^^
Great seeing you on Facebook by the way.
This is excellent advice. Thanks so much for posting. You did some great facebook research.

Dee,
Appreciate the kind words. ^^ Not too thoroughly though, hope others can make it more complete by sharing their knowledge in Facebook apps. Nice to meet you, hope to see you here often.
Really good post! One thing I missed (in this article and your blog in general;)… Facebook Connect… So comments in your blog also appear on the profile of the users that commented… And in the newsfeed of all their contacs… So not only you but also your readers promote your blog (at least those who make a comment;)…
@Gautam… We made the same experience with different projects… The interaction rate usally is much higher on a facebook page than in a group or often even than in the blog of the original posting…
Felix,
Thank you so much for the heads up! I haven’t really tried Facebook Connect though. Would love to test it out asap!
Appreciate you sharing your Facebook experience and I think this is a valuable find for me. Another score goes to Facebook page. ^^

Great info here Ching Ya.
Really need to focus more on Facebook. Got a lot of great info from friends lately on this topic.
I have just not spent enough time of Facebook. And I have to admit that I did not use all apps you mentioned here. Guess I will have to work on that.
I used the Notes option but did not like it, was just TMI on my Facebook profile. Did not want my family and friends to get that many updates on my blog as it turned out to be.
Think I might have done something wrong. I wanted all my updates to be reflected on my fan page, not my private profile.
So need to look into someone that has some basic Facebook training on using Fan pages.. and the features you mentioned here..
Cheers.. Are

Yes, that’s right. I need to work on Facebook Page as well. It’s great to have some info on the personal Facebook but we all know there’s a limit to what to be shared with our friends. I will try to dig deeper in Facebook Page, perhaps in coming post.
Great post, I was playing around with these throughout most of the morning..thanks..now I need to stay late to get my work finished.
The problems with Facebook is I see so many ways to update it, that often times I am flooding my wall with way too much info.

Welcome Justin,
I’m so sorry you’ve delayed your work for trying out the apps. ^^ Honored, but I really hope you manage to finish your work in time without staying too late.
Yes, you’re right. Never include ALL the apps. The functions are more or less the same, unless you wish to diversify them in facebook pages or Networkedblogs, groups etc. For now I think RSS and Networkedblogs can update my blog post efficiently.
Do share what works best for you. Would love to get more feedbacks. Thanks so much for visiting!

Welcome to my humble blog. ^^ I hope you get to try some apps mentioned in the post. Which do you think can work best for your Facebook account?
Thanks for visiting. I remember how I started blogging, so do drop me a message if you need some blogging assistance. I’m no expert, but will try my best to help out. Best wishes!
As i have opened my account recently so i feel using Simplaris Blogcast will make others visit my site and all others method can be implemented only if i have huge friends networks
Am i wright??
Sunny,
Not exactly. You can start to implement them on your site regardless having a huge network or not. Visibility is the idea.
Networkedblog, Notes & RSS are very effective in auto updating blog post in my opinion. Simplaris maybe slightly slower from my experience, but it has a few options on how you like to display it on your Facebook.
The only way to find out, is try using it. ^^ You’ll discover which works best for you and your network.

Thanks again & keep up the good stuff!
Tushar,
For me I would inform them about the launching of my Facebook page (just did) or group from my account, think that’s ok if one doesn’t sound pushy. ^^ After that I would prefer to separate certain updates between Facebook page and personal account, that’s the plan.

Hello Ching Ya,
These are helpful tips. I usually make use of the buttons from the writing sites I am a member of. But my blog posts however are not shown automatically of course, i was thinking of looking for an application at FB that could do this for me.
I’ll try to evaluate those you recommend and see if they’re useful for me. Cheers.

Way too many folks don’t get that coming straight at folks with your productor, service or prelaunch of the week …etc…simply truns folks off.
You add value in your way with good teaching.

We must learn,do , then teach and connect to like minded folks and this takes patience and consistency in what your information teaches.

You shared a very important point that made me think: To educate others and encouraging usage for mutual benefits — that’s very true. I remember some blogger friends who never tried Twitter/Facebook finally started to sign up after we ‘nagged’ them time after time how helpful the tools are, which is wonderful!
That’s what I love about info-sharing. The world is so much different now — to give/share will help both us and others to work towards productivity. I’m no pro, just a lady who’s so excited about social media and meeting like-minded people. ^^
Thanks again for your kind feedback. Hope I get to see you here often. Best wishes in the new year!

Thnx for exploring them and sharing ur knowledge with us
Facebook Ads : “The idea of reaching out to targeted readers varied by age, location, interests is what Facebook Ads do best.”
This is an overlooked gold mine – compared to Google adwords, Facebook ads are far cheaper and there is more search traffic on Facebook than there is on Google.
See this page

Also you can specify exact targets e.g. only people who are 40 and are non graduates – now that is targeting! For example if you wanted to target people who are coming up to a special birthday etc.

Great post, there were a few applications in there that I haven’t heard about that I’ll have to check out for sure!!
In my research I haven’t found a single application that works well with automatic updating to the newsfeed and wall; it takes anywhere from several hours to a whole week until the latest blog entry shows up. What I do for my own page is use Networked Blogs (for the added exposure) so that my latest blog entries are permanently visible on the page, but I don’t have it set to automatic publishing – instead I advertise my latest blog-entries manually via status-uppdates. This way I guarantee immediate publishing, plus I often add a charming catch-phrase or question in the status to go with the link, which I find gets more attention.
This is great information. I’ve been looking for ways to push my Facebook to another level. Looking forward to getting more fans to my pages.
