How to Import Twitter Favorites to Facebook Page

I must thank Heather for bringing up this brilliant question. To me, Twitter Favorites is another hidden gem for content discovery. Apart from discovering smart tips, Twitter Favorites works as a bookmarking tool to collect testimonials, acknowledgments about others and our work. Either way, it deserves more attention from us rather than rusting itself away on the sidebar.
Retrieve the location and RSS Feed for Twitter Favorites
Twitter Favorites is public viewable for all user accounts. Consider Favorites as a ‘resourceful link’ for your Twitter, to retrieve its RSS Feed simply go to the link indicated below then look for RSS feed of user’s favorites below the ‘Following’ chart:
Tools to Import RSS Feed to Facebook Page
Now that you got the feed, here comes the best part: importing the feed to your Facebook Page. Tons of ways to achieve that and if you are already familiar with how Facebook applications can enhance your Facebook Page by adding it to your page, it should be easy for you to carry out either one of the following methods:
Facebook Applications: RSS Graffiti and Social RSS
Most of the applications are now supporting multiple feeds importing, therefore you don’t have to worry about messing up the existing blog post updating to your wall posts. RSS Graffiti and Social RSS both fit well for the job, but the former has a slight advantage over its Twitter posting options:
- ability to personalize favorite tweets as status updates
- eliminating unwanted twitter username right at the beginning (the example stripped my username to make the message more straight forward)
Twitter Web Client: Hootsuite
This is another favorite method of mine – using the almighty Hootsuite you can enjoy the efficiency of RSS Feed updating easily from its web page.
1. After logged on to Hootsuite, look for Launch at the bottom left corner of your dashboard.
2. In launch> Settings > RSS Atom to add a new feed
3. While making your way through the configuration, make sure your facebook page selection is active/ticked:
Web Application: TwitterFeed
So you’re not used to Facebook applications or Hootsuite, how about Twitterfeed that provides the same functionality to update your Facebook Page with favorited tweets easily based on configured settings. Post prefix or suffix, even apply keyword filter to further select your tweets based on Facebook Page audiences.
Social Networking & Microblogging Service: Ping.fm
Ping.fm makes sharing all the more easier! Iit covers a wide range of social media sites other than Facebook Pages and updates them in one-go! It’s comparable with FriendFeed and the process is relatively easy as well ever since Ping.fm included Feeds and Google Reader as one of their services. Just logged on to Ping.fm and go to Superfeedr to customize your feed:
Or, if you prefer to do selective tweets for Ping.fm:
1. First, Log on to your Google Reader and add the Twitter Favorites RSS Feed to your subscription.
2. Back to Ping.fm, go to this link and input your Google Reader username and Add Feed.
3. Once you have hit ‘Share’ over at your Google Reader, Ping.fm will update your Facebook Page and other social media sites immediately as how you’ve configured them.
Points to Ponder:
To identify your purpose and the type of messages you are bound to showcase at Facebook Page members is vital. Mari Smith has shared a few good ideas to use Twitter Favorites even outside Facebook. In addition to that, Favorited tweets are good choices for selective tweets (as you can apply in Ping.fm and twitterfeed earlier) instead of importing the entire twitter stream which can be a turn off if you’re super-twitter-social at times. Try using prefix to create non-intrusive updates, sharing what matters and truly important to your audiences.
What about tweets from Protected Twitter accounts, you say? When you mark ‘favorite’ for a tweet shared by your friend who has a protected Twitter account, although you can view it in your Favorites but it won’t be visible to your followers publicly, only those who are sharing the same connections you have with that protected account. It’s good to see that Twitter is still protecting user’s privacy up till now.
Now Is Your Turn…

I use Twitter Favorites a lot.
And Twitter don’t allow you to organize your Favorites really well.
Cool tips here.

I wouldn’t mind to have more control over how we should organize our favorite tweets. Grouping or tagging is definitely a better way, if only Twitter would incorporate that someday. Until then, your tips helped. ^^
I was wondering where you were.
How do I favorite something on Twitter?

Hi Dennis,
Yeah I’m back.
Have been occupied with Facebook customization and writing projects, deadlines. Good to be home again.
Depends on which app you’re using, if you’re on Twitter web interface, simply click at the ‘star’ at the right of the tweet. Desktop clients can do so as well depends on which one you’re using.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for another brilliant tutorial, Ching Ya. I can’t imagine how much time you spent researching and writing this. You rock! Sorry I’ve been out of the frame for a while. I’ve been very ill and am also moving house.

Well, very innovative and quite useful post. Though I am not a big twitter fan, still..I think I can use all these points while I am considering doing the same. To get your tweets on facebook page…hmm..looks to be a nice idea. I haven’t yet tried it. But will surely think on it. Thanks and keep posting

Aswani,
Thank you for visiting. Yes, it may fit some people but not all.
At the same time when people are decluttering their feeds, it’s important to choose whether importing ALL tweets or just Selective ones (Favorited, useful) will help better. It’s all about choices. Feel free to test it out and modify your strategy.
Appreciate you taking the time to comment.
I love the “Favorites” feature on Twitter and definitely agree that it’s an under-utilized feature. I use it to gather testimonials whenever someone sends me a tweet to say thanks over something I’ve helped them with. Or, if there’s something that I want to reference at a later date, I use it then.
I like that you can set it up to post your Favorites on your Facebook page (certainly sounds like a great option) but I don’t know that I want to push my content that way all the time. Something to ponder over I guess…

Great post.
Right now I have one twitter account (my personal) and two blogs. I have facebook accounts for myself (personal) and one for each of my blogs.
I’d have to create a new twitter account if I wanted to seperate my twitter favorite as they get posted to the blog’s facebook page.
Seems like a lot of work for right now. Maybe I’ll just post it to both and see how that goes.
Do you use RSS Graffiti or Social RSS to post the articles from here to the site’s facebook page?
.-= benwaynet´s last blog ..Reasons Why Should You Post Everyday =-.
Good advice Ching-Ya! Personally I prefer the Social RSS for Facebook as it posts the headline and description. Hootsuite only does the headline which isn’t as enticing.

Hey Ching Ya, you know how lazy I am when it comes to searching for things. I’m sure you’ve done a tutorial on how to make a great Fan Page for FaceBook so could you leave me a link to it.

Hi Sire, great seeing you.
As to create a great fan page is it about how to startup, manage or enhance a facebook page? Or all? I’ll be happy to provide you the resource, do let me know which specific area you intend to know better so I could assist you to the fullest. You know what, you just reminded me I could do a series about this or an ebook, perhaps?
Let me know.
Very useful post, Ching Ya! Over the past week or so, I’ve deleted most of the 2,000 tweets I marked as favorites over the past year. Doesn’t seem as though Twitter accommodates a mass-delete, so I had to individually delete them. Argh. Hadn’t considered importing to FB Page, I’ll def check back on this very detailed post if I decide to do so. Thanks!

You’re right on the deleting, Tim. Also, the view followers in past few months are just as difficult. I do think Twitter page can enhance a bit on that, or probably allow us to view tweets in time range; or like you said, mass delete (with selective options) will be great. Maybe someday? We hope so.
Appreciate your comment, Tim. Thanks again.
Hey excellent info you have provided ching ya… Impressive… This info worked at its best!!

Hi Ching Ya,
Fantastic tutorial! I can see the benefit in this, but I have the concern of overloading a FB page with tweets – they can seem to become “junky” or fill up the page if one has too many favorites. Given that, even your point about selecting tweets based on keywords, how would you best sort through them to feature one a day? Is there a randomizer or selection for #per day?
Second thought – this is a really helpful feature for a website – pushing out more great content as a twitter feed (not your own tweets, but favorited one). Do you know of a WP plugin that would feature only favorites?
And *humble thanks* for featuring one of my tweets as a favorite. What a nice surprise to see when I visit one of MY favorite blogs on the web!
.-= Debra Askanase´s last blog ..Is Your Social Media Strategy Missing Steps? =-.
Debra,
You’ve always been insightful in social media.
Good question and just like you, I’m not a fan to a flooding stream on any social media sites. Certainly we can’t control how one is sharing the tweets, I would probably advise who is implementing this to well balance out both his/her tweets and favorited ones. Either the favorited tweets are only containing testimonials or special tips (non-repeating tweets in own stream); or replace ‘full’ twitter stream with favorited tweets if needed. Either way it depends on how one is planning on using this feature and how it can help without burdening the stream. User ethics play a big role in this.
As in quantity wise, if one is super-active, then one may consider using a FB tab to showcase them instead of streams, perhaps? Feature couple of favorited ones per day can be done with :
Twitterfeed – update frequency (as shown in the image above)
Ping.fm & Google Reader – to selectively choose what to be shared (not based on keyword but manually)
As for WP plugin, I’ll run a search and see if I could locate one. Will update you once I have anything.
And you’re most welcome.
No doubt there’s more than one tweet but unfortunately I haven’t been active on using Twitter Favorites myself lately. Also have cut down my time on twitter due to some other projects at hand. Time management, always an issue to overcome.
Thanks so much for visiting, Debra.
Nice tutorial, but I usually share the posts which i like on Facebook and Twitter both. It will be more useful for people who have a lot of favorites in twitter.
Also, I would suggest people to use the basic twitter website rather than using complex apps (sometimes they are useful) but they are sometimes lacking in some features also..
