in the recent 81st Annual Academy Awards a.k.a the OSCAR. If you haven’t seen it, must be wondering how briliant it is to have such great achievements ? For those who have seen Bollywood movies before, might find this movie totally different from it. I have plenty of thoughts yet I’ll hold it till the comment session, if you wish to talk about it, that is. ^^ In the mean time, enjoy the show!

Synopsis (Spoilers below!)

The show started off with an 18 year old boy by the name of Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), who was tortured and interrogated by the policemen about his shocking ability of reaching the stage which he was only ONE question away to win 20 million rupees on India’s ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’. But, why would they even be suspicious in the first place?? Simply, because he grew up in the slum. No way he could be any smarter, nor educated enough to even get past 1st question! So, he must be cheating!!

No, he did not. As the recording of the Millionaire show was playing, Jamal explained to the inspector, one question to the next, just how they were coincidently interrelated to his life story, the tragic, the misfortunes and how he was desperate to be on the show, just to find the love of his life – Latika.

The story brought us back to about 10 years ago, Jamal and his brother Salim were living in the slum with their mother. Salim was a slick kid, constantly working his ways through the slum by selling, and making deals with whatever merchandise he could get his hands on. In the other hand, Jamal was just being the kid of his age, happy & innocently cheerful. One drastic tragedy took their mother’s life away. Homeless and helpless, the 2 brothers wandered around places, later joined by a little girl, Latika who Jamal invited into the little shelter of theirs on a stormy night.

So the 3 musketeers, together, making their ways through the rubbish dumps, until a local gang brought them to a decent shelter, with the rest of the orphans. They were given good food and asked to sing… unknowingly the gang was on a plot to use them as children beggars. Some were paralyzed and been hurt to gain pity from the public. Salim fought back when the gang leader was about to hurt Jamal, and they escaped by jumping onto a train. Salim abandoned Latika and she ended up recaptured.

The boys came to a new place, where they saw the most enormous building of all – The Taj Mahal. They stayed around that area for quite sometimes with Jamal earned a living by being a tour guide; while his brother, Salim, a gangster. One day, both Jamal and Salim reunited with Latika unexpectedly. The boys decided to save her from the misery before the gang would sell her as a virgin. Salim killed the gang leader and they ran away. Afterwards, Salim joined another gang, and this time he took Latika away himself, leaving the poor Jamal behind.

A few years later, Jamal was working as an office-boy in a phone service company. One day, out of coincidence, he found Salim (Madhur Mittal) while covering a temporary shift for an operator. He punched Salim in the face upon meeting him, angry for his abandonment; while anticipated to see Latika once more. Sadly, Latika (Freida Pinto) was now the mistress of another gang leader, who was treating her like dirt. Jamal determined to run away with Latika and leave this place for good. Everyday, Jamal would wait for Latika as promised at the railway station, until the day she finally came! Their happiness did not last long, as Salim got in their ways and took Latika back to the leader. Again, Jamal was left behind, and Latika was no where to be found.

Jamal was desperate, until he came to his senses that the only way for Latika to find him was through the famous Millionaire T.V. Show. His job at the phone service company earned him a golden opportunity to get on the show. Even the host (Anil Kapoor) underestimated his chance of winning. As the game progressed, out of jealousy, the host even provided him a false answer while in the washroom. Jamal did not buy it which got him to the final question. As the show was over-timed, Jamal could only continue his challenge the next day. The gameshow host called the policemen and reported him cheating on the show, which brought us back to how the story started.

The inspector let Jamal go after confirming he wasn’t lying at all. Jamal went back to the show in time for his final question. As for Latika, she saw Jamal on T.V., so did Salim. This time, Salim finally decided to help Latika escape by giving her the car key and his cellphone. Latika ran far away from the bad guys and safe enough to watch Jamal on the show.

Now the whole nation was grasping and holding their breath, hoping the boy from the slum could win the 20million rupees. The last question, Jamal used the final lifeline, to phone a friend, and he chose to call Salim. Latika picked up in time, and Jamal was relieved to know she was safe, and that was all he needed to hear. What about the final answer? Out of his own instinct, he won the game!!

Jamal and Latika reunited at the railway station, where they supposed to meet. As for Salim, he fought his last battle with the gang and died in the bathtub full of money bills.

There goes the happy ending with the 2 lovers together at last, and danced the night away.

If you’ve watched it, what’s your thought of the show?

It has been awhile since I last blogged about Movies. Thanks to Crystal, whom I visited earlier and gave me a long movie checklist to scroll over, I actually missed blogging about it. Let’s get that old feeling back by starting with these 2, ready for some adrenaline-pumping ride?

1. Boogeyman 3
(Imdb rate: 4.9/10 out of 574 votes)

Of course I got through B1, B2, before B3. I was, and still am, never too crazy about sequels. B3 is more likely a teen-horror flick with massive CGIs, and reminds me a lot of Grudge or the plastic masks of Monster Slayer. So the legend continues. Still having second thoughts about whether or not to open that closet door?

Just so you know, the B3 trailer is only starting after 0.43sec. Yes, it’s too short, but that’s all you need to know – as little as possible.

Summary (may contain spoilers):

Sarah was a psychology student who hosted a late night radio show with her lecturer. Her life undergone a drastic change after she witnessed a horrific sight of her best friend been strangled to death by a monster a.k.a The Boogeyman.

No one claimed to believe the myth, of course, until those with suspicious minds of the possible existence of Boogeyman went missing from their dorms! Only Sarah knew what happened to them – in her vivid nightmares, they were murdered in the most horrific ways possible, but their bodies were never been found. Everyone thought Sarah was paranoid, neither her best friends nor boyfriend buy her ‘Boogeyman Killed Them All!’ remarks.

The story progressed until everyone in the dorm started talking about it. Only when Sarah’s lecturer & David, her boyfriend, ended up been murdered after believing her stories, she began to realize the evil plan that Boogeyman had for her: she was used as a vessel to spread the legend as widely as possible! The more people fearing about the legend, the more stronger and powerful Boogeyman over its victims (hmm..Nightmares on Elm Street?). Feeling guilty while trying to stop the massacre from happening, Sarah knew she had to make a choice…
(the ending is published here, if you wish to know !)

What I Think?
I didn’t give out the ending, as I’m sure you know how it ended anyway. Just think about the ending of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer 2’. There’s bound to be a B4. Isn’t it clear enough? No particular thoughts about it, really. It’s just another horror movie, with the familiar storylines. Personally, only a 5/10. Why not 4 or less? ‘Cause the effects are still pretty gruesome.

2. Amusement
(Imdb rating: 5.6/10 out of 783 votes)

I guess the fact that me having lower expectations for Amusement had it turned out to be one heck of a surprising ride! At least it took me off guard at some point of the show. Again, no rationality needed, forget about all the How’s/Why On Earth’s, just enjoy the show!

But I’d suggest you to skip the trailer and dive into the film straight! You’ll find it more intriguing then.

Summary (spoilers ahead!.. again):

Should I give out the entire summary or maybe just a bit? The twists & turns are what made it interesting. Alright, keeping it as simple as I could. (Don’t say I didn’t warn you about the spoilers)

Shelby, Tabitha & Lisa were childhood friends. After grown up, they lost contact with each other. Shelby was on a road trip with his boyfriend, until she saw a girl in the truck whom she believed needed help. But ended up been captured by a psychopath.

Tabitha went to visit/babysit her younger cousins at her aunt’s. It was a big house with only 3 of them spending the night. Tabitha found her room to be the spookiest, with a lot of dolls/dummies, and a huge, ugly clown sitting on the rocking chair.

At night, she got a knock at the door. Unable to identify the guy’s face in the dark, she sent him off after telling him the babysitter he was looking for had left long ago. Tabitha went back upstairs, tugged the boys in and ready for bed herself. Later that night, Tabitha received a phone call that sent a shiver down her spines…

Lisa was having a girls’ night out with her housemate at the night club. Later when her housemate met a guy and thought of going out on a date with him, Lisa approved and hung out with her boyfriend instead. She got home, hoping to see her housemate back from the date but she wasn’t there.

On the next day, there was still no sign of Lisa’s roomate. Lisa began to worry, so she asked her boyfriend, Dan, to check out the abandoned mansion which was now a place for the homeless people, to see if her housemate was there with her date, who claimed to be staying there. Dan went in, but never got out. Lisa could not wait much longer and sneaked in, later only hoped she didn’t…

So, 3 girls ended up got caught by their childhood friend, a boy who was having serious psychology problem and spooked them out with his project back in the old days. He searched for revenge as they made fun of him before and now wanted them, especially Tabitha, to approve of his ‘amusing’ tricks. Upon staring at the horrific sight of her childhood best friends been tied up and tortured, she begged for their lives been spared. Failed to do so, suddenly the psycho turned around surprised, when Tabitha started to burst into laughter…

What I Think?
As the story is trying to jumble up a lot of horror features in it, you can see lots of shadows from films such as Roadtrip, Scream, The Strang
er, Dead Silence etc. And the multiple personalities from the bad guy that pulled everything off, although a little far-fetched, but it kinda worked in a thrilling way.

The tricks are the same, but the way how the story was told is briliant (only if you watched as many lousy horror movies lately like me, you’ll appreciate Amusement better). Despite the story being a little disturbing, I still give it credit for a breakthrough. The clown won the title for the scariest part of the film. This flick got my vote for suspense and some surprises along the way, so personally, 6.5/10.

I had Burn After Reading right after Tropic Thunder. Both are claimed to be comedies, yet in a very different manner. It is Stiller Vs. The Coen Brothers! Just so you know, the Coen brothers just won this year’s Oscar for No Country for Old Men. I am not familiar with Coen’s humour, as No Country is more like a crime thriller, based on a novel by Cormac McCarthy. So, Burn After Reading is my second shot with the Coen’s production.

Shall we have a sneak peak first?

As I can see you’re anxious for the movie, why don’t we jump in the actions first before I go bla bla bla.. I’ve decided to make it brief, instead of a lengthy, complete synopsis I used to do, ‘cause i don’t think it would make much sense in words, except everything is in complete chaos:

Osbourne Cox (John Malkovich), a former CIA analysist, quits his job after being demoted. He then decides to write a memoir about his life as a CIA agent. His wife, Katie (Tilda Swinton a.k.a. the Ice Queen in Narnia), is two-timing him with Harry (George Clooney), and secretly planning for her divorce with Osborne.

In order to secure her status for the divorce, she copies whatever information she can get from Osbourne’s PC, and hands over the compact disc to her lawyer. Now, the secretary of the law firm is a regular at the Hardbodies Gymnasium. One day, she misplaces the CD and the gym coach, Chad (Brad Pitt) has his hands on it! What will a pretty boy do with a CD full of government informations? Return it? Of course! But not until the owner repays him with an attractive ‘reward’! *evil grin*

Chad has an idea and joins forces with his co-worker, Linda Litzke (Frances McDormand), who desperately needs some cash for her cosmetic surgery! Both of them try to blackmail Osborne in a totally non-professional way. Osborne is surprised, furious, and clueless about the entire thing! Oh, did I mention Osborne keeps to the bottle, and having trouble controlling his anger? He swears awfully a lot for his age. Anyway, he refuses to cut the deal, even hits Chad at the face during their one-time-only dealing discussion.

Disappointed and angry, both Chad and Linda bring the CD to the Russian embassy instead, hoping for more attention and reward that they deserved! In order to provide more information for the Russians, Linda suggests Chad to break-in and locate more information from Cox’s resident.

Here comes the ugly part, while on his mission, Chad is being shot directly at his pretty face!By Osborne? NO!! He has been kicked out of the house by his wife who changes all the locks without his consent! So who did it then? Is Harry! Remember the wife’s lover? Panicked, he thinks he has killed a CIA agent, since Chad carries no ID with him. So, Harry dumps the corpse, and living in paranoid for the rest of the scenes.

Later, Harry catches up with the guy that follows him around in a black car, whom he thinks is working for the CIA. To his surprise, the guy is hired by a law firm to collect evidence of him cheating, as his very own wife will be divorcing him soon! Harry doesn’t see that coming at all, and by the way, his wife is also cheating on him too. Talking about happily ever after!

Harry then looks for Linda to seek comfort, whom he met earlier during a blind date. After he finds out the co-worker that Linda is worrying sick about is actually Chad, all hell break loose! He freaks out and storms off. Later he boards on a plane and escapes to Venezuela, hiding from the CIAs, who has no intention to track him down at all.

Unable to find Chad, Linda concludes that he has been kidnapped! Her emotional roller coaster and anxiety are all in the eyes of her secret admirer, the gym manager, Ted. Talking about being a hero, he sneaks in Cox’s house for the information to save Chad’s from the kidnappers, which by the way, never existed. Unfortunately, the last thing he wishes to find is the angry Osborne, with a guy in his hand. He shoots Ted, after assuming he has something to do with the blackmailing, and finishes him off with a hatchet.

Later, we finds out Osborne is gunned down by the real CIA agents who are surveiling outside his house, upon seeing him attacking Ted. Now, Osborne is in a vegetative state at the hospital. Unsure of his chance of waking up, the CIA decides to leave him alone. So, what happens to Linda? She is being brought to the CIA Headquarters, and agrees to cooperate with them (to clear things up, maybe) only if they can provide her the money she needs for her cosmetic surgery. And you know what? The CIA agrees to Linda’s offer. Case closed.

So, what do you get from the summary? Pure chaos theory! The ending just left me hanging there, with a big ‘Huh??’ and lots of question marks. Perhaps it tries to depict human problems nowadays, such as job disciplinary, adultery, low self-esteem, failure of dealing with anger that leads to false judgment, and idiocracy. It’s not a happy ending, or is it? As Linda managed to get the fund for her cosmetic surgery anyway! At least somebody is happy, unfortunately her friends had to pay for her with their lives. It’s a dark comedy, with a bunch of paranoid and silly people, running into each other, and mess things up. It’s merely for entertainment and some laughters. But, a brilliant, outstanding piece of work? Hmm.. not really. Personal opinion, I’ll give Burning After Reading a 6.5/10.

How about Tropic Thunder Vs. B.A.R??

The pretty guys… Who stands out?

So, who is it gonna be? Tom or Brad? The ladies would probably be screaming their names now! I don’t want to create a chaos by picking sides, yet I do salute both of them for their talented acting in some of the movies, back in the days. No doubt, Tom & Brad are brilliant actors!

However, in the aspect of standing out + freaking everybody out in those 2 movies, the winner would be no other than Tom. He gave a total ‘slamdunk’ performance. I’m like jaw-dropped, to see him acting so un-Tom-Cruise-ly in Tropic Thunder. I’m not used to watching him playing a foul-mouthed, sarcastic, hairy, middle-age bold guy, with a protruding stomach. Not to mention shaking his buttocks, dancing with a hip hop music. Crazy as it seems, he IS in a Stiller movie, isn’t he?

Not that Brad isn’t any good. In Coen’s flick, he plays a silly & naïve guy who works in a Gym. But I still enjoyed seeing him making some silly dance moves, and the frat-boyish acting, you jut can’t hate a character like that! Anyway, the guy has to loosen up once in a while, he’s now a father of… 6? 7 kids? I kinda lost count… Well, both are comedies, so, just enjoy it!

Fun Facts!

One last thing though, check out the writers’ name below for both movies:

Tropic Thunder

- Ben Stiller, Justin Theroux, Etan Cohen (who also writes for Madagascar 2)

Burn After Reading
- Joel Coen, Ethan Coen

Notice the similarities of both names? What are the odds of that??

If you are an action movie fan who loves story like Fugitive, Borne Identity etc., I’m pretty sure you’re gonna love TAKEN. I totally loved it! And I was practically glued to my seat the entire show. In fact, I would advice you to actually watch this movie yourself, ’cause I think you’re going to enjoy it, big time! Personally, I’ll give TAKEN a 8/10!

Bryan (Liam Neeson) was a former CIA agent, who gave up his job, moved to L.A. in order to live closer to his daughter, Kim, who he hardly spent time with when she was a little girl. His ex wife, Lenore (Famke Janssen) had remarried with a wealthy business man named Stuart. Bryan was hoping he could make up the time he lost with Kim and he would do anything to make sure his daughter is safe and well taken care of.

On Kim’s 17 year old birthday, Bryan attended her birthday party, and bought her a karaoke machine, as she dreamed of becoming a singer since she was little. However, step dad Stuart got Kim a much cooler present – a horse. Kim got so excited and totally forgot about the machine. A sense of disappointment swept over Bryan…

At night, while having barbecue at Bryan’s place, his friends offered him a job, that is to escort a diva, Sheerah (Holly Valance) to and back from her concert. Bryan took it and everything seemed easy enough, until a stalker appeared from no where and trying to stab her with a knife. Bryan saved her life with his skilful, sleek moves. She was grateful, not only agreed to his earlier request to offer some singing tips for Kim, she even gave Bryan her name card, with the contacts of her singing coach and manager written on it! How cool was that!

Bryan had a lunch date with his daughter, and unexpectedly, Lenore attended as well. Before he could tell Kim about the singing thingy, Kim was too excited talking about going to Paris with her friend, Amanda for summer holiday. Like any other parents, Bryan was worried and reluctant to sign the approval letter for his under-aged daughter to leave for Paris. Kim was upset and so was Lenore about Bryan’s decision. However, Bryan couldn’t bear seeing his only daughter get mad at him, although uncomfortable, he signed anyway but with the condition Kim must adhere all the rules he stated. Kim was thrilled !

The big day came, Bryan sent his daughter to the airport. Both of them had a nice father-daughter chat along the way. At the airport, while Kim went to greet Amanda, Bryan accidentally discovered Kim’s idea of following U2’s band-tour around Europe with the map in her backpack! He was furious as Kim lied to him, but Lenore warned him, if he does not give Kim enough space to live her life, he would lose her eventually. Bryan backed down and did not say a word to Kim about the Europe trip.

After several hours, Kim and Amanda reached Paris safely. They met a French guy named Peter who helped them taking group photo, and even shared a taxi with them. Naïve Amanda, not only she told Peter where they lived, but also about them having the apartment all by themselves for the holiday since her cousins were in Spain. Kim was surprised as she was not told about the vacant apartment earlier. As soon as the girls went up to the apartment, Peter made a phone call …

Bryan was worried why Kim hasn’t called since they should’ve landed in Paris. When he finally reached Kim, Kim explained she had no idea about the cousin’s not being around and they were alone by themselves in Paris. Just then, Kim saw a horrific sight. From where she was standing (toilet), she could see clearly Amanda had been abducted by two men, from the living room! She started to panic as the men were coming back for her.

Bryan asked her to stay calm, and ran to the nearest bedroom and hide under the bed, she did so. Bryan quickly got out some of his gadgets and recorded the entire conversation down. But what Bryan was going to tell her next was devastating, “honey, listen carefully, …..they’re gonna take you!” Not only her, I was like “WHAT??” but it’s clear enough, hiding under the bed is no way to save oneself under such circumstances. Bryan had things in his mind, he ordered his daughter to stay focus and concentrate. So when poor Kim was been snatched from under the bed, she did as she was told by her CIA daddy, to shout out as many details about the kidnappers as she could: 6 ft tall, tattooed at right hand… in 5 seconds, before ended up with a loud scream.

Bryan felt tortured to listen but unable to do anything at his side. He recorded the conversations between the Albanian kidnappers. When one of the kidnappers took up phone and listened, Bryan gave him a harsh warning “ …… I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you”, the guy just replied “Good Luck!” before he smashed the phone on the floor.

After getting some help from his friends in security line, he tracked down some details about the kidnappers: leader’s name was Marco and their motive of abduction was to do human trafficking, using drugs on the abductees, and force young ladies into prostitution. Bryan had only 96hours to save his daughter before she would disappear f
orever. With Stuart’s help, he got a plane and fly to Paris straight. He listened to the recordings numerous times, especially the ‘Good Luck’ part…

In Paris, Bryan went to the girls’ apartment. As a spy, of course, he made a force entry by climbing up to it, inspecting the entire place, and found the SD Card belongs to Kim’s phone. While examining the photos, he spotted the photo where Peter offered to take for the girls, and with the reflection on the mirror behind the girls, he got a clear look at Peter’s appearance. That guy is in deep trouble now!

Back at the airport, Peter was trying to talk another traveling girl into sharing a cab with him, when Bryan interrupted just in time and gave him a good beating, before demanding the girls’ whereabouts. Peter escaped, hurt, Bryan took the cab and chased after him. Unfortunately, Peter made a stupid mistake and got hit by a truck. There goes the clue.

Bryan went to his old friend who worked as the deputy director of Internal Security in Paris, Jean-Claude to get some information about the Albanians. Jean-Claude gave him a tip, and Bryan went for it. But Jean-Claude called some of his men to keep an eye on Bryan.

Bryan went to the streets where prostitutes were scattering. He hired a translator, and purposely made a scene with a prostitute that caused the pimp coming right at him. He bugged the pimp, and asked the translator to tell him every conversation they had in the car. After some times, finally something about ‘fresh merchandise’ and ‘job at the construction site’ aroused Bryan’s interest and he rushed to the scene. The bad guys were setting up cabins for illegal prostitution at the construction site!

Bryan went uncovered as a customer, and he came across a girl who had Kim’s Jacket. Unfortunately the girl was too dosed-up to speak clearly. Bryan decided to take his only clue out of the hell hole. So some bullets flying, car smashing, and explosions came into the scene, and of course, they escaped.

He brought the girl to a motel, and did all he could to make sure she’s ok. When the girl was cautious, she told Bryan about seeing Kim in a house with red door, at Paradise road. Bryan went, and got his entrance pass with Jean-Claude’s Internal Security name card.

Upon meeting the gang leaders (all 4 guys by the same name, Marco), he accidentally discovered that someone from Jean-Claude’s department was actually having dark-business with the kidnappers. He lured all 4 of them to speak out, and finally found the ‘Good Luck’ guy.

So he basically shot them all and captured the ‘Good Luck’ Marco for interrogation. He tortured and electric-shorted him, and finally Marco gave out the information of Kim been sold to Saint Claire with much higher price as she was still a virgin. As you are wondering where is Amanda, unfortunately, she was seen dead on the bed due to drug-overdosed. Sad story..

Bryan went to Jean-Claude’s house, clearly not for dinner as Jean-Claude’s wife thought so, and Jean-Claude clearly did not wish to get involved, especially when some superiors from his departments were found associated with the Albanian kidnappers. He gun-pointed at Bryan, unknowingly all the bullets were already emptied by Bryan. Bryan shot Jean-Claude’s wife on the arm, and threatened him to retrieve Saint Claire’s address. Not a friendly way, but the guy was desperate as the clock is ticking…

He went for his new target. Apparently, Saint Claire was having a grand party, while underground; they were selling young girls to wealthy buyers! Kim was the last merchandise, and Bryan gun points at a buyer, insisting him to buy Kim.

However, Bryan was knocked out cold after that. Knowing he’s one of the girls’ fathers, Saint Claire ordered to have him killed. Of course, Bryan had his ways of getting out even in desperate situations.

After giving Saint Claire some piece of his mind, he chased for the buyer, up till where the boat left the cay. He stole the car from the driver, chasing after the boat while driving in the opposite lane. He miraculously avoided all the cars that came right at him, and reached the crossover bridge, jumped onto the boat, and fought his way through the bodyguards.

Until he came standing face to face with his daughter, who was held hostage by the buyer. After putting a bullet in him, Bryan hugged his daughter who was clearly freaked out and relieved at the same time.

Bryan took Kim back to L.A. and whole family reunited, crying with happy tears at the airport. In the end, Bryan took Kim to meet the diva who he saved earlier, for singing tips! Happy ending!

That’s the best part of an action movie, most of the times, the good guys (although not always) win! Frankly, I don’t agree solving problems with violence, yet in the movies, we just hope the hero could go all out and save the day. That’s my irony between reality & movies. I don’t like a ‘perfect’ hero, I remembered watching Steven Seagal in his action movies sequels like Under Siege, when the movies always ended with him UNscratched! I’m not buying it! He’s not in a superman’s movie! It’s just so unrealistic to me.

Anyway, it’s good to see Liam plays a hero, he reminds me alot of Harrison Ford, who I enjoyed in the Fugitive and Indiana Jones. Both has the justice-enforcer look and I think Liam did a good job, by portraying the anguish of a father and how he would go just to save his beloved daughter (but, maybe not the killing part). So, the last message of the show is… never mess around with a CIA agent!

A famous pick for the Movie Spree this week. What makes Hancock interesting? Will Smith, and Oscar Winner, the gorgeous Charlize Theron. What’s not to like?

When somebody told me this movie is solely about a Superhero, I have been avoiding its trailer or reviews. Why? Stories like Spiderman, Dark knight, My Super Ex-Girlfriend etc, are Hollywood flicks that do not require logical explanations. It doesn’t bother us, even the absurdity carried to its ultimate, for we do yearn for supernatural stories from time to time. The actions are everything! Since I’m going to watch it anyway, regardless good or bad, I rather skip the trailer and come face to face with the real deal.

I was puzzled earlier why Charlize is taking Mary’s role, as she is such a great actress, not that Will is not, but we all know Will. He is in Men In Black, Enemy of the States, Bad Boys, The Legend, Pursuit of Happiness… he’s the man that could go from action, comedy to drama. I never expect to see Charlize in an action comedy, definitely not as a Superwoman. Yet again, if Halle Berry could be a Catwoman, I guess as a Oscar Winner, she could pull that off as well. Luckily there’s an emotional scene at the hospital, and the facial expression of Charlize, works well enough to prove she’s one of the great actresses today. Whether you like it or not, this movie had been on the top of the box office. To me, overall I will give it a 6.5/10. Actually I prefer the front part of the story more, the rest, is getting weirder and weirder to me. The villain is not powerful, just happens to be someone who’s holding the Kryptonite for a very very short while.

Wanna check out the trailer anyway? Here goes…

~Check out the Trailer ~

Hancock (Will Smith) is an ‘unlikely’ super hero, who performs numerous acts of crime-fighting & lives-saving in L.A. But why is he ‘unlikely’? People hate him! He is hot tempered, always keeps to the bottle and a loner. When he’s on a mission, he takes no heed of the law, and destroys anything that comes in his way: skyscrapers, highways, signboards, automobiles, ANYTHING! So what if the damages cost millions of dollars? He just doesn’t care! I can see now you’re nodding in agreement, yes, he’s a nuisance, with a lousy attitude.

“Wake Up, Hancock! You..xxxxx… “

So like any other days, Hancock is drunk, lying on the bench at the sidewalk. A kid wakes him up, since the TV is broadcasting the live car-pursuit of 3 gangsters by the police. After being swore by the kid (wow, kids nowadays.. ) for not taking any ‘necessary’ actions, he decides to go anyway. He FLIES and ducks all the incoming obstacles: birds, a Boieng.. but nooooo, not the Signboard! It falls and smashes the petrol cars on the highway, well, ugly scene.

He lands on the bad guys’ car, teaches them a big lesson for shooting at his wine bottle. So, after crushes into some skyscrapers, the car ends up like this:

Massive damages! The police are angry, so is the public. But Hancock couldn’t care less!

For PR, Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), nothing is more important than ‘changing the world for a better place’! After Ray’s clients rejected his proposal to give away free medications to the needy, he heads home, feeling a little depressed. He rings home when his car trapped in a jam, right on the railway track. Suddenly, a train is coming straight at him. Ray panicks, because he is unable to move his vehicle, or get out of it!

Introducing the ‘All Heart’ symbol..

‘And then a Hero comes along..’ Hancock comes for his rescue, by flipping the car over, before the train hits the ‘man of iron’. The impact is so great until it damages the entire train. The people are furious at Hancock’s ignorance to public safety. Here goes the finger pointing.. swearing..

Hancock crushes into the train…

Poor Ray..

Fine, keep going..

Well, all except for Ray, who is grateful enough to be alive! He decides to help Hancock improve his self-image. He takes him home for dinner, introduces him to his wife, Mary (Charlize Theron) who seems surprised seeing Hancock. Just like any other people, she grumbles at his ‘heroic act’ that leads into more troubles. But Ray’s son, Aaron adores Hancock. For the first time, Hancock feels appreciated. After giving it a considerable thought, Hancock agrees to Ray’s suggestion.

“C’mon, ask me to stay for dinner…, c’mon”

So when the DA is trying to put Hancock in jail, Ray sees an opportunity: to let the public misses him during his absence, while the crime rate increases. Otherwise, he could just fly out of jail anytime after 2 weeks! Seems fair enough, Hancock does it accordingly. During his incarceration, Ray teaches him to be polite and learn to appreciate the policemen with the word ‘Good Job’, and even gets him a uniform! One heck of a PR!

“You got a problem? Oh.. I get it, I put most of you in here.. ”

“Repeat after me, guuudd.. jooo…ooob.. ggoodde, jjooobbe..good job.. ”

Hancock stays in jail for 2 weeks, almost running out of patience before the chief of police finally calls him personally, requesting for his aid in a serious bank robbery. So our ‘turned-over-a-new-leaf’ Hancock, in a tight uniform, comes to the crime scene, and ‘Good-Job’ing the policemen on the spot, repeatedly, before he saves the hostages, and dissolves a bombing threat by Kenneth (the villain), that causes Kenneth his left hand. Ouch..

What? so it’s a little tight…

You gotta be kidding me….??

Good job, yes, good job.. everyone, good job… good job… (while policemen are ducking from the flying bullets)

“You’re alright? Do I have the permission to touch your body..? Not in a sexual way of course.. not that you’re not attractive..but..” “Just get me out of here!!!

Kenneth with a bomb trigger…

Not any more..

So the crowd is happy! (Clapping)

The public loves the new Hancock and applauds him. To celebrate Hancock’s success, Ray takes him and Mary to a restaurant. They get into a conversation about where Hancock comes from. Apparently, Hancock is having amnesia, unable to remember anything from his past. At night, after he tugs Ray in (Ray is drunk), both him and Mary have this little ‘romantic moment’, I was like ‘WHAT??’ before Mary suddenly throws him out of the house (along with a refrigerator) with an incredible strength! Looks like Hancock is not the only one with super powers after all! For someone who has yet to see the trailer, I was surprised and puzzled at the same time. The story is a bit weird for me after this… but, carry on.

Hancock! Look at the camera! Say Cheese….

Oh well…

WHAT??????

Demanding for answers, Hancock asks Mary to explain, or else he will tell Ray about his new discovery.

Let’s try hitting ‘at’ her…

How about this??

They have a secret meeting at Hancock’s place. So apparently, their kinds are invincible and immortal as well. After that, they sort of get into a fight (after Hancock calls Mary crazy) and causing a massive damage to the city. At this point, I can’t help but wondering, why would Mary make such a big scene to everyone in the city, if she wants to hide her identity from Ray? It’s just doesn’t make sense to me.

Call me ‘CRAZY’… one more time???

You ask for it … !!

Well, just as we predicted, Ray who happens to be nearby, sees everything! Shocked and in disbelief, Ray heads home, followed by Mary and Hancock. Mary explains to the guys: both Hancock and her were a couple back in decades ago. Whether they like it or not, they have mutual physical attraction to each other, as they are destined and been made into a pair. But Mary assures Ray that fate does not decide everything, but people do. Hancock feels upset as Mary decides to leave him isolated without his consent.

Is it snowing..??

I don’t think so…

Later that night, he goes to a store, aiming for liquor. While the TV news is announcing ‘Prison Break’ of Kenneth (the bank robber), the shop keeper is held hostage by a robber. Hancock accidentally gets shot at, and bleeds! Quickly, he is admitted to hospital. The press are all over the place, reporting his critical conditions.

Relax ladies, it’s not Scofield..

A robbery, like no others.. only Hancock is not bullet-proof this time..

In the hospital, Mary clears everything up with Hancock in a gentler manner. It seems like they are still quite into each other, but Mary insists that they go on with each other’s life, or else Hancock will end up seriously injured, or even dying for saving her life. If both of them united, they will become vulnerable and aging like human does. Back in the old times, Hancock had been risking his own life to save Mary’s whenever they were attacked. The last time he did it caused him the amnesia. Mary says it is the best way for both of them to go on without hurting each other more, either physically or emotionally.

Meanwhile, Kenneth, who escaped from prison, plans to get back at Hancock for what he did to his hand. He and his men barge in the hospital with weapons, and shoots Mary. Hancock is losing his strength but tries to fight back as much as he can. Unfortunately he is so badly hurt, that gives Kenneth the chance to finish him off, well, nearly. At that critical moment, our kind hearted PR, Ray came in and gives Kenneth another big blow! Or, more accurate, cost him his right hand. Eeww…So, the PR saves the day! It’s the usual way of ending the big crisis. What about Mary? In order to save Mary’s life, Hancock uses his remaining strength to leave the hospital as fast as he could. So, he flies, and collapses, numerous times, before he is far enough from Mary so she could wake up again.

Mary is shot by Kenneth’s men

The guys confront each other…

Poor Hancock…

Our new hero !! See that axe behind him?? Kenneth is not going to love what happens next..

So, Hancock and Mary are not going to be together. Yet anyway, both of them are alive and well. Hancock has the destiny of making a world a better place, exactly what Ray is hoping for. So, one month later, Hancock is still fighting crimes while Mary, Ray and Aaron remain as a happy family. What can be more perfect than that?

‘All Heart’ symbol, to Ray from Hancock.. Now that’s what I call Publicity!!

So, there you go, basically the whole Hancock story. Hope you enjoy this week’s Movie Spree!

When I first came across its movie poster, I immediately thought of Army Of Darkness, one of the movies that scared me out of my wits during my childhood years. However, Monster Slayer? Seriously, I thought the movie should pick a much cooler title than that! But I can’t help noticing one of the lead actors is actually Robert Englund! If you’re the kids of the 80′s, impossible you won’t have any recollection of Freddy Krueger, the dream serial killer in Freddy Nightmares. I remembered hiding behind my sister’s back when the show was on TV. No idea? How about Freddy Vs Jason?? That shall ring a bell for the youngsters. Robert practically masters the character from ’84 till 2005 ! Amazing, and he’s like 60 years old now! A horrific movie icon! So I decided to give this movie a try anyway, for Robert’s sake.

Jack Brook was a regular guy who’s having trouble with anger management. After knowing his childhood stories, we can’t really blame the guy, the kid basically witnessed his whole family been brutally slaughtered by… a Monster, during a camping trip! Some story even his councilor, Mr Silverstein could not help him. Nobody believed him at all!

Jack grown up and working as a plumber. He took night class for Science, insisted by his whiny girlfriend, Eve. He came to the class late one night, and wow, guess who’s playing the science teacher, Professor Crowley ? None other than Robert Englund, the great.

Crowley performed a little experiment of how the Sodium reacts with H2O, which fascinates the students of the students. In case you didn’t know, the mixture creates quite a violent chemical reaction.

After the class, Eve snapped at him for not picking her up earlier for the class, then an annoying classmate, John offered to take Eve home when Crowley suddenly called for Jack. Some plumbing job was needed at Crowley’ new place, an old house at Watson Road. Jack went, but strange music started to play at the background…

At the house, Crowley greeted Jack at the door. They went to the basement and checked on the pipes. Jack assumed that the problem was only due to simple clogging at the main line. So he performed some plumbing job, but sort of messed up the problem even more, not only hit himself on the head by a flying valve, but the pressure caused the pipe to blew up somewhere underneath, outside the house, causing some part of the ground to crack open. Back to the house, Jack told Crowley he would replace the valve for a new one. Crowley comforted him: “Every step’s a progress,at least you had found the heart of the problem”?He could never be more accurate!

Later that night, while Crowley fell asleep on his chair, smoke came from the crack and into the house. After he inhaled it, his eyes went black and acted abnormally. The next day, he woke up finding himself lying on the ground, outside the house, hands covered with mud. There was a hole, which believed dug by himself last night. He dug it deeper, only discovered something he shouldn’t:a box with a skeleton and a black heart! The heart suddenly went alive and got into his body…

Jack went to the hardware store, to look for the valve. Howard, the old-aged storekeeper, recognized the old valve, and alarmed when Jack told him he got it from the old house. Howard promised to order the valve, at the same time would tell Jack an evil story when he came to pick it up the next day.

Crowley woke up, not feeling as himself, with humongous appetite, and craving for meat ! He went to the class at night anyway, looking messy and unorganized. Hungry and itchy all over his body. He dismissed the class right before he started anything, with the reason: I’m Starving ! He bought more food and went home, only finding himself more carnivorous than ever.

Jack had an unpleasant conversation at the parking lot with Eve and John, and even hit John at his throat. The noisy John lost his voice and finally, shut up.

On the following day, Jack went for the counseling again, this time he discovered the ‘heart of this problem’ ! The reason he was always upset and angry, was because he could not forgive himself for running away when the monster attacked his family. Although Mr. Silverstein told him he shouldn’t feel sorry since he was only a kid at that time, but to Jack, he felt he should have done something!

At night, Jack went back to the hardware store for the valve, and the story. Howard told Jack, he was living in that house with his uncle back when he was a kid. His uncle even told him about the legend of a demon came to our world and tried to spread evils to the humans. The demon destroyed by some brave men, but they kept its heart as the trophy. The heart was been auctioned and passed around until his uncle found and kept it. It possessed his uncle and due to self-defense, young Howard shot him with a rifle and buried him, exactly where Crowley had found the heart.

After the story, Jack went for his class. Crowley’s condition worsened, and acted strangely and more ridiculous than ever. I’m not going to write out the details unless you want to spoil your appetite for your coming meals. Suddenly, his whole figure began to transform… And all hell break lose, a Monster he became !! So exactly 1 hour after the show.. lots of screaming, running, chasing, and as a host, Crowley transformed some students into hungry-zombie-like monsters. As you can witness in the trailer, not pretty at all!

After fighting hard to stay alive, Jack and Eve finally escaped from the school, in Jack’s car. Suddenly, Jack’s radio played the exact same song on the night his family been attacked.
Overall, I enjoyed it because I didn’t expect it to be great. You need to cut it some slack, because it’s actually the combination of old-times-monster movie + Army of Darkness type storyline. When the regular guy becomes the monster slayer after accidentally awaken the ancient curse! So it is absurd, with averagely ok effects, even without much CGI, and rely only the make-ups and costumes to do the tricks. Not to mention some parts are actually quite funny too. Crazy horror movie, but I can’t help myself laughing at the end of the show !

Henry met his first, a quiet little girl named Millie, who likes to tape people’s conversation. Then, a friendly neighbour named Esperanza Martinez, a middle aged Latino woman who showed him hospitality with her homemade Tamales. Henry wasn’t all that pleased with people came knocking on his door.. not if he wished to die alone.

One day, Esperanza accidentally came across an unusual phenomenon on Henry’s wall at his backyard. Although in Henry’s opinion, it was only a water stain due to a lousy stucco job, but to her, it was actually the blood & the face of Christ!

Feeling annoyed and disturbed, Henry chased both Esperanza and the Pastor away. Only after Henry listened to Esperanza’s life story, he was touched, and even though unwillingly, he finally agreed to let the church ran some tests on his wall. Meanwhile, Henry learnt about Millie’s dereism from Dawn (Millie’s mom) while returning the tape recorder that Millie left at his backyard. Poor Millie, not a word spoken ever since her father passed away for more than 1 year ago.

Then one miraculous night, Millie sneaked in to Henry’s backyard and she touched the Christ-Faced-wall. With tears streaming down her cheeks, she hugged Dawn and uttered her first word softly — “Mama”. Dawn was overjoyed! Later that night, after Dawn tugged Millie in, Henry finally talked to her about his health condition. However, he still remained skeptic about the whole ‘miracle’ thing. Since then, Dawn, Millie & Henry became great friends and feelings started to grow for the 2 grownups as well. For the first time in a long time, Henry felt happy again.

Meanwhile, miracles after miracles were performed at Henry’s backyard for those who touched the wall. Despite feeling desperate, Henry still refused to have anything to do with the Holy-wall. Until one day, Millie stopped talking again after she overheard the conversation Henry & Dawn had about him dying soon, just like her father did. Dawn was devastated. They seek help from numerous doctors and professionals, yet yielded nothing. Henry was angry and resented more on the beliefs for miracles.

Returning home from desperation, Henry had an emotional outburst after seeing the crowd came for more miraculous acts from the wall. He grabbed a hammer and smashed it. While Henry was catching his breath, he put his hand on the broken wall. At that very moment, he felt a sense of dizziness, then the roof collapsed on him. Henry was been admitted to the hospital. After he opened his eyes, not only he was greeted by his dear neighbours Esperanza & Dawn, but he was fully cured from the disease as well! Only then he realized that the blood on the wall was real, so were the miracles. He was regretful for destroying the wall, but as Esperanza told him “It wash here for as long as it needed to here, like everything and everyone”.

So, the cynic Henry found hope and love at last. To me, this movie is a breath of fresh air. It reminds me to be grateful, always, and never lose faith no matter what happens. Just like what Esperanza (which also means Hope in Spanish) said “Everything happens for a reason”. And for once in a long time, it’s a movie without violence, nudity and harsh languages. It’s an heartwarming, and inspirational movie with simple storyline, but unexpectedly, enjoyable and pleasant.

“I promise you will get old
I promised you everything
To protect you wherever you go
I’ll give you this diamond ring

Just promise you will remember
A promise should last forever
Right up to the dying embers
Of a fire that burns so slow …”

And Enjoy this song by Badly Drawn Boy ~ Promises (soundtrack for this movie)

From the title, you can guess it’s a movie full of suspense and tension. Why, nobody really feels comfortable with ‘strangers’ being around, right? I’ll cut to the chase…

Kristen McKay (Liv Tyler, remember Armageddon?) & James Hoyt (Scott Speedman, the guy who played Michael, in Underworld) were on their way back from a friend’s wedding reception to Hoyt family’s summer home. From the look on our protagonists, obviously both were upset and troubled by something. Only later we found out that James was upset as Kristen turned down his proposal, for she wasn’t ready for marriage.

Of course, this was not the main problem they needed to deal with, tonight. About 4a.m., the couples were interrupted by a knock on the door, which actually marked the starting point of their worst nightmare. A girl was at their doorstep, looking for someone named Tamara. After explaining to her she got the wrong house, she left. Then, James went out to buy Kristen some cigarettes. During his absence, Kristen was greeted by the girl again, then more knocking and even loud banging all over the house. Kristen was alarmed and scared as she was all alone. She tried to call James on the phone, but the battery was dead. At exactly 25 minutes of the show, there’s a scene that actually gave me goose bumps all over!

Then the show continued with James came back home, questioning the terrified Kristen why she’s holding a knife & blood on her hands etc. Ok, so from this point, we knew there were three strangers with masks, basically guarding them from a distant, and apparently had easy access to their house without them knowing it. So, with their car been damaged, James and Kristen had no choice but trying to defend themselves with a rifle that James’ dad had left in the house. James did fire it, and even shot someone with it, but…. he accidentally killed his best friend who came to pick him up.

Sad and angry, he told Kristen to stay put, while he tried to go call for help with the old radio in the barn. It was not a good idea, and the 3 villains started to play more mean tricks on the couple. So games of hide and seek, shoot and run, loud bangs & screaming continued, until both of them been captured by the Strangers…then… perhaps you should guess the ending.

Actually the show reminded me a lot of Vacancy, a movie by Kate Beckinsale & Luke Wilson. It has similarities at the point where the couple was in disagreement, then were interrupted by unpleasant ‘strangers’ with knocking/banging on the door etc. This movie has a simple and common storyline, the only thing that really creeps me out, are the masks! Although I have to agree, at the earlier part of the story I think it was nicely done, the suspense, the unknowing intruders… However, it sort of got weaker in the middle of it, like James should’ve left with Kristen while they can and not loitering around for the villains whereabouts; James should’ve called for help first after re-discovering his cellphone in the house; and the reason for them being attacked was never clearly explained, except 1 explanation given by the stranger was “because you’re at home”, a little farfetched, don’t you think?

Overall, not too crazy about it. Still, Liv won the Spike TV’s 2008 Scream awards’ for Best actress in a horror movie or TV show in LA. Welcome Back to show-biz, Liv! Happy Halloween!

Or maybe I was not having any dates or gatherings or programs whatsoever. haha.. anyhow, it has been awhile since I last watched a movie (drama doesn’t count, ok?). I love Movies, in case you didn’t know. It used to eat up most of my time back in the old days, yeah, I was, and probably still, a couch potato, occasionally though. *chuckle*

I actually watched 3.. maybe 4 after tonight. Anyway, I’ll share with you one by one, maybe you were too busy for a movie, nevermind, hope this post can give you slight ideas, whether or not you should watch them. Instead of going to the big and famous movies, I actually picked some not-so-wellknown & easily-overlooked-ones on the shelfs. You could share your comments on them in case you’ve watched.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????,???????????????..?..????????????

CHAOS THEORY ~ ????

(IMDB Rating: 7.2/10 out of 6,421 votes)

~Check Out The Trailer below~

The story started off with a guy named Frank (starred by Ryan Reynolds), who was trying to talk out his future son-in-law from being a Runaway Groom, after knowing his fiancée had slept with another guy for 2 weeks during their broke up. Frank, as the bride’s dad, told the groom, Ed, his very own ‘extreme’ story & similar experiences.

Frank had always been organized and lived a well-planned life. He had a beautiful wife, Emily (Susan Allen) & loving family, wonderful best friend & successful career as a time-management lecturer (give speeches, motivate people, that sort of thing). Everything seemed perfect until things started to get chaotic one night. He was falsely accused by his wife for cheating, after trying to help a labored woman to hospital. To prove his innocence, he went for DNA testing, only to find out something he wished he never did— he’s sterile since birth!

Frank went crazy after found out his wife, Susan had slept with his very own best friend, Buddy (Stuart Townsend) , before they got married, and his 7 year old daughter, Jesse, was actually, Buddy’s. Feeling betrayed and upset, Frank went wild and decided to let ‘whim’ take control of his life, by card-picking method, stupid things like should he double-time his wife, killing himself, killing Buddy, fighting with guys in the bar etc.

Although most of the funny stuffs happen during these times, but, anyway, after all the crazy happenings, he forgave everyone, for the sake of Love. Back to present, the groom decided to stay marry, both Jesse’s ‘fathers’ are looking at their daughters with contentment, with Susan sitting in the middle. What a beautiful ending! (For the record, the song is called “Tonight & Forever” by The Damnwells, I actually enjoyed it!)

Crazy isn’t it? It’s one of those kinds of movies, that is so unlogical in real life, everything is so tangled up, but in the end, everybody has a happy ending. If everything is THAT SIMPLE! Anyhow, it is enjoyable to watch. I never expect it to be that fun actually. So if you find yourself bored at home, no particular movies you had in mind, perhaps you could try this one, less expectation brings out the gem!
