How to Import Twitter Favorites to Facebook Page

I must thank Heather for bringing up this brilliant question. To me, Twitter Favorites is another hidden gem for content discovery. Apart from discovering smart tips, Twitter Favorites works as a bookmarking tool to collect testimonials, acknowledgments about others and our work. Either way, it deserves more attention from us rather than rusting itself away on the sidebar.

Retrieve the location and RSS Feed for Twitter Favorites

Twitter Favorites is public viewable for all user accounts. Consider Favorites as a ‘resourceful link’ for your Twitter, to retrieve its RSS Feed simply go to the link indicated below then look for RSS feed of user’s favorites below the ‘Following’ chart:

Tools to Import RSS Feed to Facebook Page

Now that you got the feed, here comes the best part: importing the feed to your Facebook Page. Tons of ways to achieve that and if you are already familiar with how Facebook applications can enhance your Facebook Page by adding it to your page, it should be easy for you to carry out either one of the following methods:

Facebook Applications: RSS Graffiti and Social RSS

Most of the applications are now supporting multiple feeds importing, therefore you don’t have to worry about messing up the existing blog post updating to your wall posts. RSS Graffiti and Social RSS both fit well for the job, but the former has a slight advantage over its Twitter posting options:

    • ability to personalize favorite tweets as status updates
    • eliminating unwanted twitter username right at the beginning (the example stripped my username to make the message more straight forward)

    Twitter Web Client: Hootsuite

This is another favorite method of mine – using the almighty Hootsuite you can enjoy the efficiency of RSS Feed updating easily from its web page.

    1. After logged on to Hootsuite, look for Launch at the bottom left corner of your dashboard.

    2. In launch> Settings > RSS Atom to add a new feed

    3. While making your way through the configuration, make sure your facebook page selection is active/ticked:

    Web Application: TwitterFeed

So you’re not used to Facebook applications or Hootsuite, how about Twitterfeed that provides the same functionality to update your Facebook Page with favorited tweets easily based on configured settings. Post prefix or suffix, even apply keyword filter to further select your tweets based on Facebook Page audiences.

Social Networking & Microblogging Service: Ping.fm

Ping.fm makes sharing all the more easier! Iit covers a wide range of social media sites other than Facebook Pages and updates them in one-go! It’s comparable with FriendFeed and the process is relatively easy as well ever since Ping.fm included Feeds and Google Reader as one of their services. Just logged on to Ping.fm and go to Superfeedr to customize your feed:

Or, if you prefer to do selective tweets for Ping.fm:

    1. First, Log on to your Google Reader and add the Twitter Favorites RSS Feed to your subscription.

    2. Back to Ping.fm, go to this link and input your Google Reader username and Add Feed.

    3. Once you have hit ‘Share’ over at your Google Reader, Ping.fm will update your Facebook Page and other social media sites immediately as how you’ve configured them.

    Points to Ponder:

To identify your purpose and the type of messages you are bound to showcase at Facebook Page members is vital. Mari Smith has shared a few good ideas to use Twitter Favorites even outside Facebook. In addition to that, Favorited tweets are good choices for selective tweets (as you can apply in Ping.fm and twitterfeed earlier) instead of importing the entire twitter stream which can be a turn off if you’re super-twitter-social at times. Try using prefix to create non-intrusive updates, sharing what matters and truly important to your audiences.

What about tweets from Protected Twitter accounts, you say? When you mark ‘favorite’ for a tweet shared by your friend who has a protected Twitter account, although you can view it in your Favorites but it won’t be visible to your followers publicly, only those who are sharing the same connections you have with that protected account. It’s good to see that Twitter is still protecting user’s privacy up till now.

    Now Is Your Turn…

Do you have any questions about Facebook? Or any social media issues you’re interested in finding out? I would love to have a Q&A session like this as a blog post as it helps us all to discover new approaches that might be a big step in our respective networking goals. Like Heather, you’re definitely gaining a spotlight and link love for your kind participation here in Social @ Blogging Tracker, I’ll say it’s a mutual benefit for all of us, don’t you think so? StumbleUpon Had A Makeover!

    overview

It has been 5 days since Stumbleupon had a makeover, or, plan to.

Stumbleupon has long been my favorite social bookmarking site & blog traffic source. Ever since the emerge of Su.pr & firefox plugin, I hardly log in to its main site except to check on messages and friends’ submissions occasionally.

Enough said. You must be wondering what’s new?

    The 3S – Simpler, Searchable & Sociable!

    Simpler

    add a site

New skyblue-ish interface is now towards simplicity. Upon logged in, you’ll notice main options ‘Discover, Favorites, Stumblers’ are arranged systematically on top. No more distracting tags splattering over the page (listed in dropdown menu of ‘Topic’). When selected, sub-tabs of each main option will display horizontally as shown. Neat and easy to navigate. The grid & list options stay.

Page submission and tagging much easier done through SU toolbar plugin. Take notice, as the current Stumbler URL is listed as www.stumbleupon.com/stumbler/username instead of username.stumbleupon.com. Maybe the SU team will auto-update it for us in November. Will look into this.

    Searchable

    SU search the favorites

It is said that new Stumbleupon is much search-friendly now. You can have the keywords search not just within your own favorites, but friends’ or everyone’s as well. Amount of page views shown for each stumbled page; suggested search terms will be given if no match was found. With Best Match & Recently Rated options, you can have all the scoops related to your niche in no time.

I’ve tested but found out present interface has more accurate search results comparing to new. Perhaps may upgrade after the full implementation? We’ll see.

    Socialble

    stumblers

Apart from email import, new Stumbleupon is facilitated with Search for stumbler option. Friend request is no longer available. Site-sharing will base on Accept shares to my toolbar setup or mutual subscribers. So be your friend’s SU subscribers if you plan to receive their recommended sites.

Similarity meter is gone for good, replaced by We both like.

    It’s Up To You Now…

Go ahead and taste the switch. You can switch old interface back anytime before November. Dislike it? Feedback to SU team to have them review the changes.

16 Social Bookmarking Plugins to Promote Your Posts

    great-way-to-share-blog-post

How would you like your blog posts to go viral?

Ask any blogger, he/she will tell you: Submit your posts to social bookmarking sites; promote them on social networks.  Sure, but have we optimized our blogs for that challenge yet? Do your readers ever bother to use those lovely social bookmarking plugins beneath your post?

Educate Readers To Utilize Social Bookmarking Plugins.. HOW?

Since self-submissions are prohibited, it lies in the hands of our readers. They may like your post so much but no idea how to share it. What you can do is :

    1. Increase visibility of your social bookmarking plugins. Make a post to showcase the tool if you have to.

    2. Announce your newly adapted plugin or a social network you just joined; encourage readers to try/join as well.

    3. Make a summon at the end of each post to whether ’stumble/tweet’ the post if they like it. Needless to sound pitiful or demanding, just a friendly reminder that makes them realize  ‘Ohhh.. I can do that! ‘

    4. Create a poll. Ask your readers what are their likes/dislikes in post-sharing.

I enjoyed Darren’s latest post about The Myth of ‘Great Content’ Marketing Itself. Post-promoting is a part of content-seeding. If you don’t care about that little post-sharing plugin, your readers won’t either. Remember,

“A Quality Content is Nothing Without Audiences!”

16 Social Bookmarking Plugins To Promote Your Posts

Before that, let me share with you a plugin-check I had on blogs I subscribed (nearly 60% of them are the frequent visitors of my blog). Although the figures do not represent the majority but at least they show the behavior of those who I am networking with for the time being.

    social-bookmarking-plugins

Good to know that most of them are using social bookmarking tools, but how about 25% who aren’t? Do they aware of the plugins or simply not planning to include one? Thanks to Christie and the discussion we had in one of her posts’ comment, I decided to test the Wordpress plugins myself. Instead of going into lengthy reviews, I decided to share them visually instead — the images can speak well for themselves.

Expandable Plugins vs. Displayed Social Bookmarking Icons

Expandable plugins required mouse-over or a mouse-click to expand the bookmarking list, usually supporting up to 50 to 100+ bookmarking sites; while displayed social bookmarking icons are more focus and visible, but limited choices. If you’re a visual type of visitor like I am, probably you are more into the latter. There’s no exact right or wrong pick, simply self-preferences. If you don’t own any just yet, now it’s a good time to grab one!

    socialdropdown-display-no-expand

Too many of them? Configure it for 1-click expansion instead, or ‘more’:

    socialdropdown-aft-embed

    14. SocioFluid

    - Absolutely one of my favorites for fun visual effects. Not only it has plenty of social bookmarking options, but including the flexibility to resize the icons (16, 24, 32, 48) and adjust placements (top/bottom). Below are the examples of 16px and 48px respectively:

    sociofluid-16-x-16sociofluid-48-x-48

Or better! Have it configured as when hovering you get to see the fluid-movements from small to enlarged. Pretty neat huh?

    15. Top Social Bookmarking Buttons

    - Yes, only 7 sites provided. If that’s all you need, why not?

    16. Tweetmeme

    - Not only it comes with analytics, but visible and easy tweeting with just one click. If you’re a Twitter fanatic, you’ll agree this is a must-have.

8 Features You Should Know About Su.pr

Posted by Ching Ya | Posted in Blog Traffic, Social Bookmark, Web Application | Posted on 16-06-2009

    supr-invitation

Ooh..just another URL Shortener. No big deal. — That’s the reaction I had when StumbleUpon initially announced the idea of Su.pr. This assumption had a drastic turn right after I snatched an invitation code with 499 others and gave it a test-run last weekend. IT’S ABOUT TIME, SU.PR!

**To get yourself an invitation code for Su.pr, follow @Stumbleupon and wait for the code. Be quick! I’ve waited 5 Days to get mine. **

    StumbleUpon & Su.pr …

I’m not a 24/7 stumbler but if I lay my eyes on some great posts, I won’t leave without a stumble. The StumbleUpon toolbar made the process so much easier and effortless: I don’t have to log in every time when I need to stumble a page, it’s all there on the browser. Have been a fan since then.

I’m not sure how involved you are in StumbleUpon, but if you’re a dedicated tweeter, it would be impossible to miss those shortened URLs. Check out 6 URL Shorteners as Stat-Trackers if you still have a vague idea about them. To be a stumbler and a frequent tweeter at the same time, Su.pr provides a fantastic platform to handle postings not only to social media sites, but also submissions to StumbleUpon as well! How cool is that.

8 Features You Should Know About Su.pr…

Buckle up ’cause here we go!
    1. URL Shortening; Post Scheduling on Twitter & Facebook

    url-shortener-box-and-tweet

You could either ‘Just Shorten‘, ‘Post‘ it directly or ‘Schedule for later‘ posting to both Twitter and Facebook. User only needs to authorize the accounts as instructed to activate this feature.

    Review:
In this context, Su.pr is similar to Hootsuite, but has a slight edge over it with Facebook integration. It would be a home run if Su.pr allows multiple Twitter accounts as in Hootsuite. This suggestion had been submitted so we will see how Su.pr respond to this request.

Also, you won’t be able to edit post in ‘Schedule for later’, except delete it.

Another great news is that Su.pr has solved the 302 redirects issue due to the Su.pr framing. Now, Su.pr is all about 301 redirects so.. Shorten Away!

    2. Article Submission & Review Made Easy for Su.pr links

    thumbupnow

If the webpage is yet to be discovered by StumbleUpon, a ‘Thumb-Up Now’ image would appear next to your post. Stumble it or add a review with just one click away.

    Review:
I’m impressed with such convenience. Upon hitting ‘Thumb Up Now’, a pop up browser will appear for you to fill up the page details with reviews (optional). A nice boost to page-stumbling while encouraging reviews from the stumblers. Plan to tweet your review? Sure, it’s well taken care of:

    review-on-stumbleupon

    3. Click Stats

It records and displays the statistic of how many people have clicked the Su.pr link. Also, including :

    a) Results showing in graph- optional for a time range of today, 7 days and 30 days. Stats are downloadable in CSV file.

    overview-of-first-supr-tweet

    export-as-csv

    b) Number of retweets and tweeter details

    retweets

    c) Top Traffic Sources for the link & StumbleUpon users who liked the page.

    stumblers-who-likes-the-site

    4. Promote Your Website

    framing

By clicking the ‘Promote Your Website’ button (or via ‘Setting‘) you could add at most up till 3 sites so your visitors could catch a glimpse on the promoted site(s) and its most popular content and number of views.
    Review:
Think about the page impressions if you have thousands of followers. Even if you’re not owning any site/blogs, perhaps a support for some of your favourite sites with great stories to share. And the StumbleUpon frame works fantastically to suit your viewing pleasure with Stumble, Like/Share etc:

    stumbleupon framebar

However, do make sure the promotion sidebar is not interfering your post viewing, especially for those who have the same right-aligned content layout as mine.

Another reason I love about this feature is the easy navigation to check on previous stumbles and reviews for my blog post. At least now I know who are the angels behind the support.

An in-depth graph depicting the total traffic of the page received over time is revealed once this feature is activated.

    promoted-website

    5. Suggested Posting Time

This helps to monitor your traffic while determines the best posting time for maximum traffic exposures.

    suggested posting

    Review:
IMHO, this may be an analytical source for your readers or followers. Which types of posts are suitable at certain time range? What are the readers’ behaviors towards it? When will your most likely visitor/stumbler be online? By combining the traffic source data, perhaps you could work out a focal timing for your social networking. A reader-type data base may be discovered from the statistic.

    6. Self-customized URL shortener with Own Domain

Great news for webmasters! Now user can customize his/her own domain within the shortened URL. Since it’s StumbleUpon we’re talking about, chances are that the links will be discovered by other stumblers. It’s something that none of other URL-shorteners could provide.

    Review:
I haven’t got the chance to test it out yet. Will update once it’s done. To get your own domain-customized shortened URL, some setups are required. Kindly refer to StumbleUpon official page for details.

    7. Launching of API key

Developers or users are now flexible to work on integration of Su.pr with third party apps via API key.

    Review:
This improved feature will attract more fans and extend Su.pr’s performances. My little suggestion for Su.pr would be to incorporate its service with Twitter Desktop Clients. Surely it’ll boost up the usage tremendously.

    8. Bookmarklet

Su.pr wouldn’t be complete without this feature. It’s now well fixed on my browser and ready to greet me with a drop down box anytime for a quick posting/shorten feature.

    bookmarklet

Best known as the prestigious site for promoting interesting web pages, StumbleUpon has indeed up its game this time. Seems to me it’s far more impressive comparing to Diggbar. With whole bunch of features mentioned above, it’s like getting the best of both worlds for stumblers/tweeters!

The only concern would be the issues revolving quality and self-submission from publishers, will StumbleUpon come out with a decent control system? Where’s the line to be drawn while submitting numerous URLs all of a sudden? Will such convenience leads to spamming?

While leaving the headaches to StumbleUpon, I’ll keep my optimistic view towards Su.pr for the time being. How do you find Su.pr? Do you think it will help your site to gain extra traffic from StumbleUpon? Kindly share your thoughts.

If you happen to enjoy this post, do subscribe via RSS Feed or email so you won’t miss the next post. Thanks for reading. ^^

Please Retweet if you like this post! Thanks. ^^

How To: Add Social Bookmark links To Your Blogger Post

Posted by Ching Ya | Posted in Blogger Tips, How To, Social Bookmark | Posted on 04-03-2009

    6

    socialbookmark

Why it’s essential to add Social Bookmark links?
Those are the little icons that lead you to popular social bookmarking sites, where your readers could give you credits by bookmarking them, or introducing them to the rest of the world. Bloggers are constantly hoping for more recognitions and subscribers. By having the bookmarking links near at hand, it’s more likely for your readers to ‘digg’ or ‘stumbleupon’ your post comparing to those who’s not. Why? One reason — Convenience!

    I don’t know how!

I had a long search on the web, without knowing the info was right in front of me all these times. Thanks to Rose from bloggertalk, I found an informative page regarding the social bookmarking link add-ons, amended by crankedmen while the idea originated by Amanda Fazani.

    Here’s How:

    1. (log on to blogger) Layout > Edit HTML
    2. Tick the ‘Expand Widget Template’ checkbox.
    3. Search for the text:
    <p><data:post.body

(this could only be seen if step 2 is carried out correctly)

    4. When you found it, copy & paste the codes below after it:

    For Stumbleupon:

    <a expr:href=’&quot;http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit.php?url=&quot;
    + data:post.url + &quot;&amp;title=&quot; +
    data:post.title’ style=’background: url(
    http://www.stumbleupon.com/images/stumble.png)
    left no-repeat; padding-left: 20px;’ target=’_blank’>Stumble This</a>

    For Digg:

    <a expr:href=’&quot;http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&amp;url=&quot;
    + data:post.url + &quot;&amp;title=&quot; +
    data:post.title’ style=’background: url(
    http://digg.com/img/badges/16×16-digg-guy.gif)
    left no-repeat; padding-left: 20px;’ target=’_blank’>Digg It!</a>

    For Del.icio.us:

    <a expr:href=’&quot;http://del.icio.us/post?url=&quot; +
    data:post.url + &quot;&amp;title=&quot; +
    data:post.title’ style=’background: url(
    http://images.del.icio.us/static/img/delicious.small.gif)
    left no-repeat; padding-left: 20px;’ target=’_blank’>Add to del.icio.us</a>

After you’re done, preview them to see whether they are well fixed underneath your post. It’s that simple!

That’s it? How about other Social Bookmarks??

I found quite a lot of them here, like Facebook, Google Bookmarks, Furl, Reddit etc. As for others, you may need to do a little digging on web to source them out yourself. Or you could drop me a message and I’ll see what I can do.

    No shortcuts??

Ok, it’s troublesome and you do not wish to mess up your HTML codes. In that case, I have something else for ya:

    1-Social Marker

A convenient way to submit your article to multiple social bookmarking sites in the matter of seconds/minutes (depending how many sites you’ve selected)! Just have your URL, descriptions & tags written earlier, click ‘submit’, then the page will generate on its own to direct you to the sites pre-selected. Copy and paste the required info, once done, click ‘next’ on top of the header, you’ll be off to the next site for submission.

    socialselection 2

Although I do sometimes worry about the submission being treated as among the SPAMS or being flagged due to certain reasons. Therefore it’s just an occassional usage for me.

    2-Add This

    add-this

    addthis 2

A lifesaver out of the copy & paste marathon! Simply register yourself, then log in to get your button code. It could be either for your blog, or your blog post. If for the latter, simply copying the ‘AddThis’ button code and follow the sequence once you’ve log in to Blogger. Go to :

Template> Edit HTML> check the Expand Widget Template> locate and paste the codes right after

    <div class=’post-footer’>

    Save Template.

    add-this-1

There it is! Click and go to the social bookmark site desired!

    Problems?
At times, you might encounter some problem after pasting the codes, and blogger would give you a report number of some sort; try it again later or the next day. It just may fix in properly.

So which one works best for you?

Please Retweet if You Find This Post Useful, thanks!
